I ordered the oxtail mac and cheese and oxtail tacos, and unfortunately I was disappointed. The portion size for the oxtail mac and cheese was very small for the price of $14.42, especially considering it was mostly macaroni with only a little bit of meat on top. The oxtail itself tasted overly sweet, almost like sugar had been added, which overpowered the savory flavor you would normally expect.
From the presentation alone, the dish looked messy and overly saucy, with grease and liquid pooling at the bottom of the container. The lettuce and toppings also appeared wilted and soggy rather than fresh. As for the oxtail tacos, they were extremely soggy and fell apart immediately when handled. They were not structured like traditional tacos at all, more like a soft wrap that couldn’t hold the filling.
Overall, the texture, portion size, and balance of flavor did not match the price point. I expected richer, savory oxtail flavor, better structure in the tacos, and a more generous portion for what was paid.

Yesterday was my first time ordering and the food was excellent. I added plantains to my order and they gave me two small pieces, which was a little disappointing, but I won’t complain because the food was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be ordering again.

This locally owned Caribbean spot located off Bloomfield Avenue serves top quality Jamaican cuisine.
Owner Susan introduced me to a variety of appetizers and plates and I was in for a treat.
The soft, doughy dumpling is a great finger food to munch for the starter.
The oxtail patty deluxe is the ultimate version of a Jamaican beef patty. This patty is cracked open and stuffed with oxtail, macaroni & cheese, and smothered in gravy. It is then wrapped inside warm, doughy coco bread.
And if you are as impressed as I am with the appetizers, wait until you hear about the main courses!
The bone-in jerk chicken was freshly cooked on the grill. The protein was tender and juicy and the jerk sauce gave it a nice kick.
If you are a pasta lover, the rasta pasta is a must try! This is an ultimate version of your typical pasta dish. The penne is smothered in sauce and mixed with colored bell peppers and a protein of your choice. The jerk chicken also gave it the perfect combination of fire and heat.
The oxtail burger may be messy in appearance, but it is marvelous in taste. In lieu of a burger patty, you are served shredded, deboned chunks of oxtail. It is definitely a good thing if you get your hands dirty with this sandwich!
As a bonus, the grove sauce is an excellent classified supplement to every Jamaican dish from the jerk chicken to even the sweet potato fries. You can ask for more, but you can’t ask for the recipe!
If you are craving authentic, freshly prepared Jamaican food, then explore Susan’s restaurant and you are in for the win!

The oxtails you can tell were made from love. The Rasta pasta might be too spicy for some people but if you have the palate for it it’s really good. I love spice personally.

I love oxtail. So I got oxtail cheesesteak, oxtail empanadas (not pictured), oxtail beef patty, and a deluxe oxtail patty, and a large oxtail platter. Everything was really good. The flavor was perfect. I’m going back next week for more. Service was great too.

The other day I got, The Grove Grill, for lunch. I ordered their Oxtail Patty Deluxe. It was an overall ok patty. I really enjoyed the coco bread and the patty wrapping. They tasted fresh and had a great texture to it. The Mac n Cheese Filling used is extremely bland. Could’ve used a bit of black pepper and more of a cheese flavor. The Oxtail Filling has a sweet taste to it, the gravy it’s in it pretty good. But the actual oxtail itself was fairly subpar. It was not tender, and had a stringy texture to it. Reminded me of pulled beef rather than the chunky oxtail bits people may be used to. There also was a bit of lacking in enough of the oxtail filling too. The biggest surprise, was that it came with Beef Patty Filling as well. The beef patty filling was exceptional. Great flavor, great texture, and really boosted their Oxtail Patty Deluxe’s overall rating. I wish I would’ve ordered their beef patty! The staff were extremely kind and attentive and made sure my order was correct. The place itself has a nice vibe to it as well too. All in all, I couldn’t highly recommend their Oxtail Deluxe Patty, but their beef patty filling shows that their other menu items are most likely terrific! I’d love to try this place again. If anyone is in the, Bloomfield, area and looking to try, The Grove Grill, definitely give it a shot. The Oxtail Patty Deluxe was not to my liking, but it is extremely filling and worth the price.

I luckily stumbled upon this gem when I searched for what the closest restaurants to me were and saw that they were not just a Jamaican restaurant but a FIVE STAR Jamaican restaurant so I just had to see what it was hitting for!
Walking in I was immediately greeted by the young lady at the counter and noticed just how warm, inviting, bright and adorable the space was. I began to scan the menu and honestly wanted everything but decided to try one of their top rated and ordered items which was their oxtail patty deluxe – a beef patty sliced open and topped with boneless oxtail, macaroni and cheese and stuffed between a piece of coco bread … HEAVEN is exactly what this masterpiece tasted like!!!! The oxtail was so tender and flavorful while all the other elements worked in perfect harmony. I also ordered the cabbage as a side bc I love Jamaican cabbage and this cabbage was exactly why I love it bc it’s fresh, seasoned simply and perfectly and cooked just right so there’s enough crunch. This meal was a true 10/10!!!
I will definitely be adding The Grove Grill to my rotation bc I must try their oxtail cheesesteak and Italian oxtail cheesesteak in addition to some jerk chicken …
