I rarely leave negative reviews and usually prefer to keep my thoughts to myself. I genuinely wanted to have a good experience here, especially since the place is highly rated and often mentioned as a must-visit spot for cơm tấm. Unfortunately, my visit was quite disappointing.
I came in to order takeaway. When I walked in, an older lady walked past me a couple of times without acknowledging me at all. After waiting for a while with no one approaching, I eventually had to step closer to the kitchen just to let them know that I wanted to place an order.
The salted egg meatball cơm tấm sounded interesting, so that’s what I ordered. I then waited quite a long time before finally being charged and handed the food.
While I was waiting, I noticed several other customers coming in and looking confused about what to do or where to sit because no one was there to greet or guide them. Many people also had to step closer to the kitchen to let the staff know they were ready to order. Some even said to each other that they might go somewhere else because no one was taking orders.
It was around 10:45–11:00am, so it wasn’t even peak lunch hour. There were about three workers in the kitchen and roughly ten customers in the shop.

When I finally got home and opened the takeaway, I realised the meatball I ordered wasn’t included. What I received was just rice, a fried egg, a slice of meat loaf, and pork skin, no meatball, which was the main part of the dish I ordered.
Because of this, I can’t really comment on the dish itself since the central item was missing. Unfortunately, my money was taken but the full order wasn’t delivered.

Although I really wanted to like this place, I won’t be returning.

We came for dinner and sat in. Authentic Vietnamese food with a vegetarian menu!! Including a vegan broken rice dish with mock meat and this delicious “floss” made up of seasoned vermicelli and tofu. My partner had the traditional broken rice and chicken ribs on the side and he liked it as well. We each got a side soup, the vegan one was clear veggie broth with silken tofu, veggies and pine apple and his was bone broth with meat in it. Great for mixed vegan/meat-eater company who both want to enjoy authentic Vietnamese cuisine without having to compromise❤️ lovely service from older gentleman who was very kind, despite having sold out of the veggie spring rolls and veggie rice cakes for the day. Drinks were ok, we had Vietnamese iced coffee and passion fruit juice.

Really amazing broken rice with succulent pork ribs! Highly recommend coming here to this hidden gem in Springy. The pork rind has good texture. They don’t stinge on anything and you can tell they truly care about the quality of the food.

Extremely small place, questionable hygiene in the kitchen and service was chaotic at best. Our group of 7 had to be seated on 2 separate tables as they didn’t have space.

I made sure to double check with the older waitress before we ordered that they had everything on the menu, her response “We have everything.” But when we ordered our dishes with Chinese sausage, the meals came out without and she just said “No Chinese sausage left.” Constantly glaring at us.

The pork ribs were marinated well, but I don’t think we’ll be back anytime soon given the poor service.

The cơm tấm here was absolutely delicious—I genuinely enjoyed every bite. The restaurant itself is pretty run-down, and the service isn’t anything to write home about, but the food came out fast and was exceptional. You know the food’s going to be good when the menu is literally in shreds and people just come to eat by themselves 🙂

Traditional Bun Bo Hue had a very nice flavour to the soup. Their Banh Mi beef was not the greatest I’ve had, but all food was fresh. Seating is small, to be expected, wasn’t bad for a quick lunch.

The best Com Tam I ever have here in Melbourne, taste just like the food I had back in Vietnam, so nostalgic. The grilled pork and the egg loaf are so flavorful. Great portion for a reasonable price.

This restaurant sits adjacent to the train station, corner of Springvale Rd and Queens Ave. Small restaurant and with limited seating. We always wanted to try their broken rice due to them calling themselves king of broken rice. Ordered the special Com Tam ($15) and the special bun bo hue ($22). Food was served promptly and pleasantly presented. Both the servings were generous in portion. The pork chops were very tender and very aromatic. I was initially sceptical about the price they charged for the bbh but changed my mind later. There were plenty of ingredients, and the pork ribs were so tender that it was falling off the bone. At some stage, I was struggling to finish my noodles. An unassuming restaurant with great taste.

As a Vietnamese pescatarian, I have been searching across all of Melbourne to find the best vegetarian Viet food. This is it.
The Hủ Tiếu was so flavourful and the broth tasted so close to the real thing I had to ask the owners if it was actually vegetarian to make sure because I was flabbergasted.
I had to order their vegetarian Cơm Tấm and Bánh Mì to takeaway and it was the best thing I’ve ever put into my mouth. I even came back another time to order their vegetarian BBH and they did not miss. I do not think any place can top this. I still have the steamed rice cakes and vermicelli noodle with spring roll to try but I already know it’s going to be amazing. I hope they expand their vegetarian menu because it should not be known just for their broken rice.

I was recommended by so many friends to try this place out and we finally did today! I can now confirm this might be the best broken rice I’ve tried in Springvale so far! Value for money and yet so tasty 🙂

The special broken rice got my heart. The pork chop is cooked to perfection. The steamed egg meatloaf could have been better but again for the price point this meal is a bargain. We also got the prawn & pork spring rolls as well and we could tell they were homemade ❤️ Its a plus that the store also provides vegetarian options too!

It can be quite crowded during peak hours so be mindful and patient. We could tell that they are quite understaffed but love to see how they were very attentive and friendly to all the customers that came in.

Thanks again for the lovely meal, I will be back more often!
