West Fenkell has new owners since the beginning of 2020 and they did an amazing job at keeping the original bread and pizza roll recipes that they are famous for. But what is even better, they have a ton of new cakes and pastries that are so scrumptious you will be craving it all the time! When the COVID crisis is over, there will be a line out the door for their treats!

Not satisfied with our order of a birthday cake.
My significant other order a cake birthday for me with an Ethiopian theme inside cake, and outside frosting. The inside of the cake coloring order is incorrect, as well as the outside frosting with a red, white, and blue flowering finish. The instructions of how the we wanting the cake was given to the Baker themselves, and was agreed upon with both parties. When cake was shown at pickup it was accepted, but was ordered under short notice, and only wanting to have something for the big day. The bakery was notified of the mistake, we were told the baker was already gone and there was nothing that could be done. And apology was given, but we need our monies returned. The cake you can have back, the only reason it was cut, was to see if the cake was a total lost.

I am truly obsessed with this bakery! When I lived in Livonia, I saw them as an occasional treat. Now I live in Ferndale and I drive 20-30 mins just for their amazing baked goods. The staff at the store is beyond helpful with my dietary restrictions and making sure I can eat anything they recommend. Almost all of their bread is vegan and dairy-free, and all is clearly labeled so I can make non-dairy choices without them if need be!
Today I got a delivery from a friend of mine who knows I broke my (driving) foot over the weekend and have been bummed being stuck in the house. She asked them about dairy free treats and I was amazed to learn they had carrot cake I could eat! Score! I am a little weary of shredded coconut…it’s the texture for me…. but this cake is moist and soooo good! I would hardly know it was in there but it adds a nice flavor! The walnuts make it just right. I’m going to eat the whole thing before my husband can get home from work.
My hubby stops there frequently enough that the bakers know him as the guy with the dairy free wife, and he raves about their pizza rolls! They will save some for you if you call ahead! Please don’t buy them all or my husband will kill me for revealing his honey hole…
So impressed with the staff and store there! I’m hoping more porch deliveries will come my way in the coming weeks!

Tried one of the cinnamon rolls and a slice of pumpkin cake roll and they were both absolutley delishous! I clearly made a mistake not getting a loaf of bananna nut bread to go with it!

I have been eating their bread my entire life. Theirs is the best. I’m not sure if it’s because of being sugar free, but they have the best bread and rolls out there. BY FAR.

Not an easy place to get to, but their cannolis have always been the best!! Until today
Shells were soggy & cream was not white? and kinda thick. Not tasty. Lemon tart’s crust also soggy): So disappointing !!!
Gonna call tomorrow hoping for fresh replacements. They’re so nice, expecting positive result.
UPDATE!!!!!!! I was wrong I called, expecting compensation & THEY HUNG UP ON ME!!!
I called back, no answer!!!! WOW ♀️I actually tipped with my last dollar.

It’s a nice bakery with a friendly owner and lots of awesome cakes and stuff. My wife loves the carrot cake from here and we go there every other month or so to satisfy our sweet tooth craving. 100% recommend this amazing bakery …

I should have taken a picture of my cake but I didn’t, I forgot. I ordered a banana nut and I have no complaints about my cake for my birthday. Moist and delicious, we’ll order another one next year, if my time is not up. Congratulations young lady you did a wonderful job on the cake. I don’t know who you are, but you do.

Update as of Oct 2024… No longer taking EBT. Prices keep going up, & the bakery was looking more empty than ever since the remodel. Bread tasted different the last time too. I’m wondering if there was a change in ownership and then the recipes? Was the best bread around before. My son also didn’t like the cake last time. Disappointed.

We got introduced to their breads during farmers market in the central city park and since then we are hooked. Their no sugar, no preservative breads are amazing, we had tried many varieties from their stores like Italian bread, multigrain, French Vienna, rye and Italian dinner rolls also some of the cookies and muffins are good. And they are at very reasonable prices. I preordered 11 dozen dinner rolls for our party and they were really good, all our guests also loved it. We are from Indian origin and their dinner rolls are closest to breads that we get in India. Also the ladies here are always cheerful and welcoming.
