I had an amazing experience at The Downtown Eatery and Deli! I ordered the Downtown sandwich, and it was loaded with fresh, delicious meats and all the toppings you could want. Truly one of the best deli sandwiches I’ve had.

The service was outstanding as well. Wendy and Chris were amazing — warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. Wendy even treated me to a free coffee, and they offered several soup samples, all of which were excellent.

I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back often. A true gem downtown!

What a hidden gem! The owner is the nicest person and the food was delicious! I was worried about just getting a club sandwich but I could only eat half of it! My daughter ate her turkey sandwich really fast. We will definitely come back.

The Downtown Eatery & Deli is an excellent spot for a great sandwich. The place is spotless, the staff is friendly, and the portions are generous—sandwiches come stacked with plenty of meat. The sourdough bread is fresh and delicious, easily some of the best we’ve had. Their menu also offers baked potatoes and soups that look just as tasty, so we’re already planning our next visit to try more. A great find in Downtown!

I’ve eaten at this sandwich shop several times, and it never disappoints. The bread is always fresh, the ingredients are high-quality, and every sandwich is packed with flavor. You can tell they put care into everything they make.
The staff is friendly, the service is quick, and the atmosphere is welcoming. It’s become one of my go-to spots, and I’ll definitely keep coming back.

Was in town for 2 days and my wife wanted to try this restaurant. The food was excellent! I had a BLT and the bacon was cooked perfectly and tasted great (come by close to closing and you just might get extra bacon, I did and it was great). My wife had the pastrami and Swiss and it too was wonderful. The pastrami was very flavorful and it all went well on the marble rye.
The lady running the restaurant was extremely friendly and very chatty (turns out that she knows some people I went to high school with).
I don’t get to come home very often, but I wish I knew about this place sooner.
If you get a chance, go and give this place a try. You will not be disappointed.

Stopped here with our twins after visiting the Children’s Museum a block away. Got the BLT which was fresh and delicious. Husband got a reuben which he said was also delicious. Wendy made a grilled cheese for my kiddos, since there wasn’t an official Children’s menu. She was very accommodating to them, which was so appreciated. It was nice to be there during a slow time (storm rolling into town), because we really got to talk with Wendy while we were there. Such a wonderful woman, my kids adored her and gave her a hug before we left. We will be back for sure! Thanks Wendy!

This has to be one of the greatest places I’ve experienced downtown Portsmouth. While going through a rough time I was welcomed with open arms and not judged. This was not my first time dinning here. However, the atmosphere and community that has been established you become family. The food is amazing the menu has anything you can look for. If you love a great place to eat and chill and be treated like family please check this place out. Chris and Wendy are both amazing by the time you leave out they will be Auntie and Uncle.

Stopped by Downtown Eatery and Deli in Portsmouth, and wow—what a gem. Got the chicken salad wrap, and it was hands-down perfect. The chicken salad was fresh, creamy, not too mayo-heavy, with just the right crunch. That pickle slice on the side? Spot-on tangy, cut through everything perfectly. Biggest shoutout to Wendy—she was up at 5:30 a.m. hand-mixing that chicken salad like it was art. You could taste the care. Plus, she’s easy to talk to, made the whole spot feel warm and welcoming. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and go. Five stars, no question. Worth every bite.

This was my first visit here, and I am happy I chose this deli. I really wanted a salad for dinner (especially after I had to return my salad to CFA last night b/c it looked old and gross)! This place here prepared a nice, fresh salad just as I requested. It was tasty and really hit the spot. There was a little bit of a wait but it was well worth it b/c they make everything fresh! The owner and his employee were also very friendly and funny!
