Be aware. CASH ONLY Loud place, very friendly local joint. Food is scratch made, not fast, but pretty good.
Famous for their pork loin sandwich. Huge. Delicious.
Checkout the handlebars on the bar.
Prime rib tender medium rare just as ordered. A little cool. The au jus it swims in is very good. Creamy horseradish very good. Broasted potatoes good, potato wedges with a nice sour cream house made sauce. . Not a fan of margarine or tiny packages of Daisy sour cream. Hubby got honey bourbon sirloin pretty good for sirloin. Big loaded baked potato was very good he enjoyed the green pepper and mushrooms that came adorned with. Steamed broccoli with nice seasoning.
Salad bar fair. Coleslaw is good. Tuna pasta salad a No for us. Romaine with brown edges another No go. Ranch and thousand island also very good.
Huge portions
Service is a little interesting. Our gal did the zig zag and zagged on past. So we grabbed some to go containers.
Iowa land of pork and corn, quaint little towns, lovely churches, friendly people.
No offer of dessert.
Pay cash only

We were pleasantly surprised when we sat down. This place was charming, had great drinks and so much space. My friend had such a great time that she bought a sweatshirt.

There’s never a bad meal here and the drinks are always tasty. I highly recommend Taco Tuesday. The portions are huge and drool worthy. The taco (sans lettuce) is pictured here and their unique take on nachos are just as delicious!

Only 2nd time to Handlebars, both times the service and food were great. Small town bar atmosphere with high dollar type of food and service with reasonable prices. Your drink will not go dry and the wait for appetizers was not long considering how busy they were. The food arrived in perfect time after with finished the appetizers. It’s a little drive but have driven much farther for much worse food and service. Can’t wait to get the friends together again to make the trip.

The food was delicious and had generous portions. I had the broasted Iowa chop, and it was the best pork chop i have ever had. Our server was kind and took care of us very well.

You cannot go wrong dining at The Handlebar. There were out of prime rib when we went last.(late night) Be prepared for a very good meal irregardless of what you order. FYI, the smothered steak pic is a Southwest ribeye. Their onion rings, pickles and mushrooms appetizers are all hand dipped.

Food is amazing.
Cash or check only.
There must be some issues with the ticketing system, because we’ve been told twice that our ticket got “lost.” If this happens, you wait over an hour for food.
That said, we go back. Maybe pack a snack, just in case.

Plan for a wait with your food. Only 1 cook, but he’s good. Hand battered fried food is excellent! That takes time. You will have plenty of time in-between appetizers and your main. Drinks are above an average pour and wait staff very professional.
