Look closely at the picture below. There are 4 pieces of meat from ox tails and a plate full of rice, gravy, and bones that were completely cleaned…all for $23.
My son and I waited in their foyer for the longest before one of the young ladies acknowledged us. We arrived on a Sunday about an hour and a half before they closed (6p-Even though their website said they are open until 9p)
We finally placed our order and waited forever to receive our food from the unfriendly young lady (who told us there wasn’t anymore rice when we ordered)…a total of $84 for 3 meals.
The okra pieces were not cooked well and tasted like I was biting into straw. You saw the ox tails. The cabbage and Mac n cheese were ok. And the sweet potato pie tasted like egg custard.
It was NOT a good 1st experience and I regret we chose to go there.

I’m disappointed to say the least. The food wasn’t seasoned and the Chitterlings were tough, like they weren’t cooked long enough. The greens were watery, unseasoned and lacked flavor. The only thing worth eating was the 7 cheese macaroni and cheese. My food cost over $50 and I have to go get me something else to eat because I’m at work. My coworker ordered the Pig feet and rice and gravy and the 7 cheese macaroni. She also was disappointed. They only gave her 2 pieces of pig feet. They also didn’t give us any eating utensils. This establishment needs to do better

I came in this past Saturday afternoon hoping it was going to be good day and im telling my fiance that its the same ppl from the church when it was there, but something went wrong, the dressing was not it it was salty and didn’t taste good at all. And my yams had a burnt taste and too sweet for my liking. My boo oxtails were tough and he only got 2 small pieces not to mention the rice was hard as ever. Bread of heaven was out of most of all the meats on the menu and etc. I really dont like doing this but I work to hard for my $. It was a waste of time and to drive to receive bad food and to be disappointed. I tried calling back and no answer then it kept hanging up, I’m like really wow .

My husband and I visited this restaurant for the first time this week. I was very nervous because of the reviews. We actually ended up eating breakfast because we didn’t realize lunch didn’t start until 11:30. The breakfast was ok, just as good as other places. I got a lunch plate to go of meatloaf (which I was told is the most popular), collards and macaroni and cheese with extra sides of potato salad and yams. Everything was very delicious and enough for me to split and have for 2 days! The potato salad is definitely homemade. The yams were sweet just like I like them. The collards were cooked well with meat and no fake taste with liquid smoke like some places have and the mac and cheese had creamy cheese throughout. I am very funny about mac and cheese, but it was very good. I definitely plan to return.

HORRIBLE FOOD, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE from the lady with the jet black hair with the bun on top of her head. False advertised turkey wings on website. It says TURKEY WINGS with GRAVY . when I received it was CURRY turkey wings. no one ever apologized they tried to blame me for not telling them I did not want curry. But how was I suppose to know if it says gravy. NOT gravy/curry. Just turkey wings with gravy on website.

I hate leaving reviews like this, but this was a really disappointing first experience. I ordered turkey wings, rice & gravy, and cabbage via DoorDash, and this is what I received. What is this!? When I called, first i was told I didn’t order the items stated. Then, I was told I could come pick up my meal, despite already paying for delivery and a tip. Not the level of service I expected.

So delicious. I had the shrimp po boy and the sauce was perfection. There was so much shrimp, I had to few outside the sandwich and they were perfectly cooked with a crispy coating. I also had the Mac and Cheese and it was almost as good as mine :).
I’m from the west coast and the prices were “practically free” vs what it would have cost at home. The people I was with all enjoyed their food as well and felt like it was a good amount of food for the price and that it was tasty.
Keely was our server and she was super fun and working hard to serve the entire place on her own. She apologized for us having to wait but I did not feel like we waited at all. I’d go back.

Ok honestly me my wife and my kids use to come to the original spot that was at the church and the food was amazing always. We are a family of five and always get 5 platters. So yeah we spend a good bit of money with this place. So tonight we get 4 platters for around 80 dollars at the new spot Tavern… This is not it anymore. Rice overcooked my daughter’s trashed her oxtails which aren’t cheap my cube steak was dry and I don’t know what this turkey stuffing supposed to be but we are highly disappointed. My wife saw how we all were upset with our meals and decided to get rid of her turkey wings. It’s not the same taste when you guys were at the church. Sorry but this wasn’t it.

I’d like to start by saying that I rarely leave reviews and try to refrain from negative reviews. This case is unavoidable. My husband and I went for lunch on Sunday. We were sat at 11:45, there were about two other parties total inside. Upon being sat, our server immediately informed us that “nothing Moravian on the menu is available.” Discouraging that a restaurant in historic Old Salem, that advertises Moravian dishes, does not always have these available. These have the potential to be the star dishes of this establishment. Our order was placed, we waited an hour and a half for our food. Only once did a server stop by and tell us the kitchen was behind. No apology. We saw many to-go boxes prepared while waiting. More to-go boxes than plates for in-person guests. We finally received our food, which consisted of fried chicken, pork chops and two sides each. The sides were tasty but the pork chops and chicken were both dry. Before leaving, I stopped by the restroom to find no toilet paper or paper towels. There was a stack of paper napkins laid on the back of each toilet. Assuming this was in place of the toilet paper? Talk about a plumbing nightmare. After hunting down the server for our check, we paid and left. This place has SO much potential in a beautiful historic setting but is being run into the ground by mismanagement.

Great breakfast, absolutely amazing staff, will be back again. Biscuits and gravy were delicious, country fried steak was quite tasty and paired well with the gravy, hashbrowns were solid. Solid quality food. The coffee was delicious and the hostess/waitress was sweet and very attentive. The decor is true to period and the experience as a whole is something I would gladly go back for.
