Good dense bagel. Pretty popular local chain. Can’t go wrong with a fresh toasted bagel in the morning. They have a large bagel sandwich menu too if you need something more creative.

I’ve been coming to New Yorker Bagel since I was a kid growing up in Ferndale — my family has been eating here for years. Now that I own a business in Southfield, I started coming back because it’s close by and I always enjoyed the food.
Normally, the staff would wash the knife and cut my bagel on wax paper because I can’t have any meat contamination. It was never a problem before — just basic courtesy and food safety.
But during my recent visit, I had a completely different experience. When I politely asked the employee to use a clean knife, she showed a bad attitude right from the beginning. I felt like my simple request frustrated her, and I didn’t feel respected as a customer.
What really bothered me was that it seemed like I was treated differently once she saw my name tag, which said “Ali.” As someone from an Arab background, I felt judged — and that’s something no customer should ever experience.
I truly grew up eating here, and it’s sad to see that one employee could harm the reputation of a place that’s been part of the community for so long. I hope management takes this seriously and provides proper training on customer service and food safety.
I want to keep supporting this business — but respect should go both ways.

It was my first time here on my wife’s suggestion.
I ordered an egg bagel toasted with smoked salmon as a sandwich. I tasted and was highly delighted with the herb cream cheese before the server spread it on the bagel. She added cucumber, capers, tomato, and red onion. I bit into this creation and felt like I had ascended to a new level of thankfulness. Excellent sandwich, excellent service, clean presentation…I was very satisfied and will come back again.

New York Bagel has been making great bagels at this location since about 1974. There is a small cooler which contains a decent selection of cold drinks and toppings for your bagels. There is also a small rack of packaged bagel chips and bagels. These photos were taken five minutes before the store closed on a weekday and, as you can see, they had a few of everything still left. The bagels weren’t still steaming hot like they are in the morning but they were still soft and fresh. Very nice people work here and they will heat your bagel if you ask. Currently the store is open everyday from 7am until 2 pm.

If I could leave 0 I would, asked for egg and sausage bagel ya they stick the egg and sausage in the microwave and bottom of my bagel is burnt.. IN THE MICROWAVE and to make it worse the workers have communication skills of a 6 year old who can’t talk just terrible attitude if you don’t like your job, quit! I regret not staying in line at Tim Hortons across the street.

Great bagels, but not as good as the Woodward location. I grew up eating these and have moved, but visit Michigan 1-2x a year, and getting a NY Bagel is always on my list of things to do. This one was not as good as usual, and also note the salt bagel was EXTREMELY salty. Like a small bite burned your mouth, and we couldn’t finish the bagel. My partner regularly orders salt bagels however this one probably had 5x the salt of anywhere else.

I’ve been a customer since my Lathrup High School Days, and if they were the company supplying Stevenson Elementary in the late 80’s I’ve been eaten NY Bagels just about my whole life!! Delicious!!!

Their bagels were on point. I had a pumpernickel one and it is really hard to get a good pumpernickel bagel. I wouldn’t recommend trying their custom sandwiches unless you are into cold cuts. My egg sandwich was so so because of the egg. Besides that, if you are looking for a fresh bagel with cream cheese, give this place a try.
