Food-wise, the Fig & Pig pizza was the highlight: great crispy crust and good flavor (though a little more meat would have been nice). My husband’s grilled chicken sandwich, however, was underwhelming with no grill marks or flavor.
Service was efficient, but the overall vibe made the meal less enjoyable, and we likely won’t return unless the music/atmosphere improves.
tots. They were larger than the what we expected but were crispy. The burnt ends were good but a little dry. For entrees we tried the pulled pork sandwich, pork belly, house made pastrami, house made sausage and sliced brisket. All were good. Only complaint was I wish it were smokier. The brisket did not have a thick smoke ring like i had hoped. But it was all delicious! The brisket was my favorite. It had a good bark. For sides we tried the cole slaw, onion rings, mac & cheese, and hush puppies. The mac & cheese and onion rings were the best out of that group. The slaw was bland for my liking. Overall great food. Great atmosphere. Definitely worth a second trip back.
The outdoor seating area is phenomenal, especially in the colder months as the outdoor heaters make the open-air space feel so cozy.
As for the food… it’s not bad, but don’t serve a “Chicago Dog” to a Chi-town girl if it’s not legit. We’ll let you know – in our polite, yet “leave no room for misunderstanding” way.
They have indoor and outdoor seating with a great feel. There was music tonight, and it was just what I needed.
The people were friendly, I had a great drink and an amazing fried artichoke appetizer.
I selected the Windy City pizza. Flavorful with a great crust. I had a slice for lunch the next day, and it’s still great.
I have found another great restaurant in Historic downtown.
Recently came back for pizzas and loved the variety of meats and the olive tapenade on the Muffuletta, but we were sorely let down by the lack of clams on the Vongole (photo attached). When you’re paying $60 for 2 pizzas, the least you can ask for is every slice to have some clam on it, right? Instead, it was like eating garlic bread doused in Parmesan with the occasional random clam. I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed (and expected better from an establishment with an otherwise impressive menu).
I will say the staff here are exceptionally nice and friendly. The post-Prohibition remodel is a much-needed facelift and the new outside bar is gorgeous. Just please fix the one annoying crooked 2-top against the wall!
UPDATE 6/23: We came by again and were blown away by the casarecce pasta! Loved the broth and flavors + the added bonus of being served in quality dinnerware that kept the pasta hot throughout the meal. They were trialing soft shell crab on Fridays or something so we got a full crab added to the pasta and I have to say — this is the BEST soft shell crab in town!!! The crab was on the smaller side but the batter was fantastic — just the right amount, lightly seasoned, and fried to a perfect crisp. They’ve really nailed it. Their take on tiramisu is a bit untraditional but it is amazing nonetheless. You’ll be on cloud 9 until the last bit of perfectly sweetened cream!! Highly recommend treating yourself to the tiramisu after!
