I ordered a Chicago tavern-style pizza on a Friday afternoon, and it was delicious and authentic—right down to the cornmeal on the bottom of the crust.
It’s every bit as good as the homemade version I once made from a New York Times recipe. Chicago tavern-style pizza originated in neighborhood bars in the 1950s, where thin, crispy, square-cut pies were served to keep customers drinking.
Gio’s also serves deep dish, which I’ll try next. The pizza was fresh and fairly priced at about $20 for a 16-inch pepperoni.
Highly recommend!

The pizza was good. I got 2 Chicago style deep dishes and the boxes were so heavy. Also got a Tavern style to try it. Also tried the cheese stuffed breads ticks and canoli. All great. It is a “ghost kitchen” which means they share space with another kitchen, but don’t let that stop you from trying these guys. Also their attitude and service was great.

Greg (the owner and head chef) is a cool dude who puts his heart and soul into his food. I’ve had deep dish and thin crust pizza, wings, beef sandwiches, and Chicago dogs made the right way. You’ll get generous portions and feel greatly satisfied after devouring whatever you ordered. It’s a true taste of Chicago right here in Nashville.

Gio’s Chicago Pizza is delicious and authentic. Both the deep dishes that we had with sausage and black olives was excellent. The thin crust was even better, in my opinion. They even cut it properly in squares. I am from Chicago and I know my Pizza. I recommend Gio’s. I almost forgot I did meet the owner and he was a pleasure to talk to.

The owner Greg went above and beyond when I sent in a delivery order for some fellow Chicagoans-turned-Nashvillians who were without power after the ice storm. Murphy’s Law (“if something can go wrong, it will”) tried to stop that pizza from getting to its destination multiple times, but Greg made absolute sure my folks got their dinner and they were stoked. They said it was the best meal they’d had all week!

We didn’t realize this was a ghost kitchen. I’m so glad they were ok with a walk in order. Phenomenal pizza. We had the sausage deep dish; house made sausage, crust was perfectly cooked, crisp and tender. The salad was fresh and dressed to perfection; not soggy or overwhelmed. This was the perfect last night dinner in Nashville. Highly recommend!

A little history- we are an Italian family that grew up near Chicago in a little town that has a genuine Sicilian mom and pop pizzeria in that town.
We got 2 pizzas from here,
1 tavern style- a thinner crust loaded pizza and Gio’s just about nailed it spot on.
The flavor of the crust was a touch different but again I had this pizza 4 hours after it had been made. But it was very very good and very close to authentic as I’ve had down south.
The other pizza was a deep dish Chicago style. Again great taste and flavor,
Very close to a Gino’s east pizza from Chicago. Just a bit different but a good different. I’m a deep dish fan for sure. The only thing in my opinion if I could have changed was just a bit thinner crust across the bottom. The edge was thick as I was used to but the base crust was just a bit thick for me.
All around both were phenomenal pizzas and the guys here were super fantastic to my wife. They explained everything and showed here around and we’re just above and beyond nice.
So from this out of place Chicagoan thank you for giving me a taste of home!!
Well done!

I love ordering from Greg! The pizza is ALWAYS on point! The crust, the sauce, the cheese, and obviously the cut is asChicago as it gets!
Personally, my favorite thing picking up from Gio’s is the handshake and “Thank You” I am given each and every time I order!
