We had a large group and called ahead. They informed us to be patient due to limited resources which was fine with us. However the quality and taste weren’t that great.

They ran out of coconut chutney for Dosa orders, the sambhar was daal with sambhar masala. Vegetable dosa was frozen vegetables in a Dosa. The dosa were highly overpriced (masala dosa was more expensive than vegetable dosa).

The best items were naan. Vegetable chili momo were pretty good. The Indo-Chinese items weren’t good. The palak paneer lacked flavor.

Raj and his wife, the owners, are awesome. My family and I have eaten here at least 5 times, and they have made us feel like family. Service is impeccable. The food is delicious. We have tried the garlic naan, chicken pokoras, vegetable samosas, steamed momo (chicken and pork), chili chicken momo, chow mein, and chai…and they’re all amazing. I always look forward to visiting, filling my belly, and catching up with Raj.

Ordered Murgh Makani and garlic cheese naan for delivery. First, let’s talk prices. The butter chicken cannot have cost them more than 3.50-4.00 to make and was $22. The Naan was eight dollars with a food cost of maybe 50 cents because I got ONE super flat and very chewy piece. In the bag there were no napkins and no cutlery. Being that the butter chicken doesn’t automatically come with Naan, what did they expect me to use to eat it? The only saving grace is that the chicken was decent. If I could rate the overall experience a zero I would.

I am an absolute glutton for good Indian food, and this place satisfied to the max! My partner and I shared the vegetable samosas which were divine! I then ordered the chicken korma and he ordered the lamb. Both were absolute flavor bombs and well worth the price. You’ll most likely not be able to finish it so I recommend having some rice made at home to eat with it later. The mango lassi was also amazing!

The restaurant was easy to find, nestled in between other shops in a somewhat strip mall location. Upon entering, I think that they did their best with the awkward space allotted them. If they had a better choice of seating arrangements instead of down a hallway, they would have taken it.
As far as the vibe and decorations, they did an ok job towards creating a culture. I want to see more and be immersed in the culture in future visits.
Now what we’ve all been waiting for, the food analysis. My spouse ordered The mixed grill and let me know meat was slightly dry. However, it was the best of all the other Indian meat grills they’ve eaten. My personal review of the paneer tikki masala was fabulous. I did order zero spice to share with our toddler. I feel like this was my personal folly in this epic quest of delicious divergence. It needed at least a one of spice to really finish it off to perfection. Without bringing the heat, the sweetness was a strong contender on Palatine palette. The homemade cheese was very tasty. I wish that they had cut it into smaller cubes to create a balance in every bite.

Dosa was a little heavy, perhaps oily. But large, tasty. Maybe it’s a personal style choice over anything wrong with the cuisine.

Recommend paying a visit. Offers a different cuisine to the neighborhood.

Bombay South (off Huffman) was awesome. The menu is mostly the same as Bombay North (off Northern Lights), but they do have a few different dishes too. I’m not vegetarian, but we somehow ordered only vegan and vegetarian dishes, and everything was super filling and full of flavor. For what you can get in Alaska, this is really solid Indian food. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in South Anchorage.

Hidden gem. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised with the lamb karma. Excellent flavor with just a hint of heat. Great experience and will definitely get again next time we are in Anchorage.

I’m very happy to have Bombay South on my side of town! So far I’ve only ordered takeout, but the service I received while placing & picking up my orders has been polite, efficient, and clear.

And the food is terrific! If you eat meat, the mix grill is a must-try. You get to sample three different dishes, all served with peppers, onions, super-flavorful tomato-y sauce, and heavenly naan to sop it all up. They have equally excellent vegetarian* options – I especially like the palak paneer (fresh cheese & spinach). Last time I tried a veggie dosa, which was a delightful discovery for me; something between a crepe and an Ethiopian injera, wrapped around succulent potatoes, peas, and other veggies, and served with a saucy lentil sambal. This dish struck a great balance between earthy and tangy, and I’d like to try their other dosas now!

Anchorage does not boast an abundance of Indian food, but fortunately for us, we now have a restaurant on the southside that offers very quick service, convenient takeout, and well-executed classic Indian dishes that will please meat-eaters and vegetarians alike.

*many/most of their vegetarian dishes can also be made vegan!
