Familiar, spacious fixture with Asian & some American buffet choices, plus hibachi & sushi stations.

Fortune Star in Monroeville is an easy go-to if you’re in the mood for a big Chinese buffet with lots of variety. The place usually has a steady crowd, which kind of tells you people like coming back.
They’ve got a ton of options: classic Chinese dishes, some American comfort food, sushi, a hibachi-style station, and a big dessert section, so it’s pretty easy for everyone to find something they like. Prices are reasonable for how much you can eat, and lunch is usually the best value, with dinner costing a bit more when they add extras like crab legs.
The dining room is fairly clean, the setup is simple, and staff are generally quick to clear the plates and keep drinks filled. When the food is fresh and the trays are being refilled often, it’s a solid casual spot to load up a plate or two and not overthink it.

The food here was actually decent, which makes the service even more disappointing. Our waitress was incredibly rushed and made us feel like we were being a burden. She kept interrupting us every few minutes to ask about drink refills, and she actually dropped off the check before we were even halfway done eating!
The worst part was the constant pressure at the end of our meal. She came back multiple times to our table, asking us to sign the bill and tip while we were still finishing our drinks. When she saw I left the 10% tip, she gave us a nasty look that made us feel completely disrespected. It’s a shame because the food wasn’t bad, but we won’t be coming back after being treated that way.

My dad came to visit me and told me to pick someplace for us to go eat a late lunch/ early dinner. We both liked the Chinese buffet in Greensburg by the mall so I suggested here. So many options, even “regular food” like fries and stuff like that. They have a few different soups, desserts including ice cream and other items. Basically if there is nothing at this buffet to put on your plate- then you got a problem, haha. The staff is all very courteous and hardworking. Inside is huge so they really are working hard. Everything seemed full at the buffet as well. When we left, it was maybe about 5:30 (on a saturday) and there were a lot of people in the lobby waiting to get it. Very busy place. I say- give it a try. Only negative thing I have to say is the shrimp was not de-veined

I am beyond angry and disgusted. I waited at least a week to write this to cool off. This USED to be my family’s favorite local go to. There’s something for everyone in my family that they like to eat. Anyways, after spending at least 75 dollars here, before tip, end of the meal, I go up with my son to help him get something else he wanted to try and a cheese ragoon fell off my plate onto the counter. Within seconds, a kitchen employee threw it right back in to be served to whoever grabs it next. If that wasn’t enough to make me cringe, she proceeds to go to the general sos chicken area of the buffet to refill one of the dishes that were low. As she’s pouring the chicken from her plastic bin into the buffet warmers its going all over the counter. She grabs her tongs and just starts tossing them right back in the warmers to be served to everyone! I’m disgusted! The amount of things that touch that counter, and the food touched all over it, then was thrown right back in to be a meal! This my friends, is how viruses QUICKLY spread! And yea, I know buffets aren’t expected to be the cleanest compared to other places of food service, but this is not just dirty tongs that I’m expecting everyone to touch. This is much worse. With dirty tongs I can wash my hands after, before I eat… this is just.. making me sick..

*update* got take out here on Friday Feb 9thfor my 5 yr old. She wanted white noodles (coconut noodles i think) and bao buns since I refused to eat there. She’s usually fine after eating the items until this time. The noodles looked old, now shes been sick with runs for 3 days, vomit first 1.5 days. Ppl need fired or place needs shutdown, to much risk of food poisoning.
This place use to be my goto spot until I realized i get sick consistently every time I eat here. Thought it was me until this time around. Throwing up and having the runs is what youre chancing if you eat here. As I ate the butterfly shrimp. My gf tells me she just watched a worker put back food that was on the countertop from people dropping including herself. Then wiped it up with a dirty rag. Absolutely disgusting I must say, bathrooms always smell like rotten …. keep it pg….. fish with bm. Service lately is crap but what do you expect when its the same workers all day everyday. Servers don’t care starting around 730 I noticed since they’re prepping to close. Litterally won’t pay no mind to the tables for a bit. Im someone who’s been going since they first opened till today, fam and I won’t be back after this last experience. Not. Worth getting sick

Appears that I’m not the only one who had an issue with a waitress keeping extra money in an unauthorized manner. First time there. Last time there. The food wasn’t really all that special. A long strand of black hair was found in the salad. Also, as I was placing food on my plate at the buffet, one of the workers weren’t mindful of personal space, standing within inches of me, reaching directly in front of me to fill the buffet. It was as if I wasn’t standing there at all. No saying “excuse me” or alerting me that they were placing a hot pan into the buffet. Somebody could get burnt. Then as we were finishing dessert, the waitress dropped off the check, and we gave her cash to pay for the bill. Our bill was $32 and some change. The waitress short changed us and only returned seven dollars. Okay, what she still owed us was less than a dollar but way more than a just a few pennies, but thats not the point. You don’t just assume that somebody is going to leave you the excess change as a part of your tip. She gave us the bills, but not the coin change. Because of that, I decreased my tip dramatically. There’s no excuse, but if there was a legitimate reason, inform me about it and make it right. Don’t just take my money and think nothing of it. The money issue on top of rushing us, I didn’t like that either, so that helped me solidify my decision of decreasing the tip. Realistically, I shouldn’t have tipped her at all for the fact that she kept my change without my consent. That is not honest business practice and very wrong. It makes me wonder just how many more people they do this to.

It is QUIET! Music is low key and tasteful, allowing us to actually TALK. They even had Christmas tunes playing. This is an all you can eat buffet wgere they take dirty plates away constantly.
Wide range of Chinese food and soups, sticker stuff, sushi, and a cook-to-order hibachi grill. Lots of deserts, open ice cream tubs. Children’s stuff. The only extra charge is for tea. Dinner price after 4pm is $2 more and has more exotic seafood like crayfish, etc..

Was there during dinner, for as busy as they were. .some of the food didn’t have any taste. Our server Insisted on taking my payment to the cashier. She came back with the dollar bills All faded out in small bills. That wasn’t necessary for $40 coming. She held out an open hand, palm up and repeatedly asked “anything else?” She’s waiting for/expecting a tip, at a self-serve buffet restaurant.
