As a huge hibachi fan who has tried countless spots, I’d comfortably place Mr. Tokyo at #5 on my personal top-five list. The food was decent and I definitely enjoyed the meal, though there are a few things to keep in mind if you’re ordering.
The Food & Value
I ordered a regular hibachi chicken (added shrimp) and a large hibachi steak (also added shrimp). Here’s the breakdown:
Size Difference: To be honest, the “Large” seems to just come with more rice. The amount of meat and veggies felt pretty much the same as the regular.
The Add-ons: I was a bit disappointed with the shrimp add-on. It was $3 for 4 pieces, which felt a little steep for the portion.
The Sauce: The Yum Yum sauce was just “meh”—not bad, but not the standout flavor I usually look for in great hibachi. You get one little sauce cup for free and then any additional is .75 cents.
Service & Logistics
Ordering: I tried ordering online through their website, but my card was declined multiple times. However, it worked perfectly fine when I walked into the store, so they may need to look into their online payment processor.
Speed: Even though the restaurant was full, my order only took about 15 minutes.
Staff: Everyone was very friendly! I came in late Friday afternoon and had a smooth experience in-store.
Be aware that they close from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM (not entirely sure why, but keep that in mind if you’re looking for a late lunch!).
Despite the small hiccups with the sauce and the online ordering, the food was good enough that I would definitely go back.

There is a variety of sushi rolls plus ngiri and sashimi. The gyoza appetizer was really good, and the squid salad was awesome. Considering that they are very strict about eating every last bite in your order, be careful. On my next visit, I may only order sashimi just to get the best value.

We usually do carry-out or delivery because the dine-in wait is typically 45 minutes to an hour, and parking can be a bit tight. Carry-out or delivery is always ready in about 15 minutes, which makes it much easier and convenient.
The staff is always swift, professional, and friendly. This spot has become one of our favorite go-tos for both lunch and dinner. Highly recommend if you want fresh, delicious Japanese food at a great price!

I’ve ordered from Mr. Toyo for years. I’ve even eaten at the other locations as well and have always had great experiences. Not sure what was happening last night but I ordered shrimp fried rice and ended up with all onions. The picture doesn’t even truly represent all of the onions that were placed in the rice. Very disappointed with the quality.

I had this for lunch through doordash with the Gyoza.. EVERYTHING was absolutely AMAZING. The amount Of food that I got for 22.00 filet and veggies were such a bang for my buck, I did order extra options of meat and vegetables.However , it was still only twenty two dollars made with fillet!! Great job. Thank you for the meal is was craving this made me feel good about spending my money.

For someone that likes sushi and wants to leave full this is the place. The food was good and tasted great. You order per roll and as it should be if you over order they do charge and additional fee and you can take home the leftovers.
Spicy Tuna Roll, Mystery Roll and NC state roll are spot on.

Amazing for the price, especially with small kids! They have gluten free options and have a list of what you can have. I ask for spicy mayo so I can order tuna rolls and pretend it’s spicy rolls. I do love the Carolina roll (no crunch) and they can do tuna/avocado on its own as well.
