Reviews
There’s a wide variety of menu options including fried fish, grilled fish, and other seafood dishes.
The restaurant is cozy and comfortable, with decent service.
Many dishes are fragrant and delicious, and the fried fish is perfectly cooked.
The chips are also tasty.
The interior is fresh and airy, with splashes of colour from the seating that give the space a cheerful, modern feel. Large windows bring in plenty of natural light, and if you’re lucky enough to get a lakeside table, the view alone is worth the visit. For those in a hurry, the takeaway counter runs smoothly and efficiently — a real bonus on busy days.
We dined in and ordered the Calamari, Crayfish & Prawn Cocktail, Sea Bass Fillets, and the classic Haddock & Chips. Everything arrived promptly and piping hot. The seabass was beautifully cooked — delicate, flaky, and full of flavour — while the haddock had that golden, crisp batter you always hope for but don’t often get. A masterclass in doing the basics exceptionally well.
We finished with two cheesecakes: the Pistachio and the San Sebastian. Both were standout desserts — the pistachio one subtly nutty and smooth, and the San Sebastian rich, creamy, and perfectly caramelised on top. A delightful way to end the meal.
Service was fantastic throughout — welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick bite or planning a more leisurely meal with a view, Lakeside delivers quality with a smile. A real gem on the water.
When we arrived, the restaurant was freezing cold — so much so that several people were sitting wearing their jackets. Not a great first impression. The beers arrived flat, which only added to the disappointment.
We asked to swap a tea for a soft drink and were told this wasn’t possible, which seemed unnecessarily inflexible. When the food arrived, it was cold. The peas were completely flavourless, and the fish was watery and unappetising.
The kids’ meals were especially bad. One was a clearly frozen pizza, and the kids’ burger was burnt. Definitely not acceptable.
The worst part of the visit came when we paid. We paid using legal Bank of Scotland notes. After receiving our change, we were stopped on the way out by three members of staff, in front of other customers, and accused of using fake money. The manager compared our notes to a completely different note pulled up on Google, rather than handling the situation discreetly or professionally.
Overall, this was an embarrassing and frustrating experience. Poor food, poor service, and a complete lack of professionalism. An absolute zero-star experience — I won’t be returning.
*** I am replying to the response made by the owner. I find your response derogatory and simply sarcastic. It clearly shows you have no care for the service you provide or the customers you serve. A simple solution for a retailer accepting cash and legal tender would be to invest in a £1.99 pen to check notes.
Clearly if that is to expensive, and based on other similar reviews you may as well shut up shop. It’s only a matter of time.***
Looked a very nice chip shop. Was disappointed with the hair I found in my chips though unfortunately. Girl at counter should be wearing a hair net.
The atmosphere is nice, quiet with a lovely view overlooking the quay.
