I saw this place had made the top 100 places to eat on Yelp in the U.S., so of course I wanted to try it out! It did not disappoint! I really liked everything that I ordered. We wanted to try the fried cabbage and peach cobbler, but they were out of those by the time we ordered just before 7:00pm after waiting in a long line for about 35 minutes! You definitely have to practice your patience when coming here, it’s worth it! For appetizers, we tried the Oxtails & Cheezy Mac Eggrolls and the special of the night, Fried Green Tomatoes! Both were really good! I ordered the 7-piece fried shrimp with cheezy mac and mean greens for my sides. Everything I had was very good, I especially loved the shrimp as it was seasoned and fried perfectly! The greens had a flavor I’m not used to, but I still enjoyed them! Hubs ordered the 3-piece catfish with fried okra and candied yams. He LOVED the okra (so did I) as it was fresh and fried just right! Overall we really enjoyed our meal and would visit again, but will try to find a less busy time! One thing I want to mention, you will leave there smelling like fried food (clothes and hair)!

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Whip My Soul, and let me tell you — the name says it all. This place truly whipped my soul in the best possible way.

The red beans and rice were seasoned to perfection, rich and comforting with every bite. The yams and mac and cheese were simply sensational — the kind of soulful side dishes that make you close your eyes and savor the moment.

Now let’s talk about those jumbo chicken wings… completely off the hook. Crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right. But the real showstopper for me was the catfish and cornbread. The catfish was perfectly fried with a beautiful golden crust, and that cornbread brought everything together with that classic Southern warmth.

Every bite tasted like authentic soul food made with love. I’m already trying to figure out how soon I can get back because this spot is officially on my must-return list.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend if you’re in Austin and craving food that feeds both your stomach and your soul.

My soul was so happy while eating at this restaurant!! The business is located in a plaza, there are several other businesses so parking is plentiful. The owner was taking orders, he greeted us very friendly but remained professional. The menu offers a variety of things, you can definitely find something that will satisfy your taste buds. Prices are decent and what I expected.

The atmosphere is very comfortable, if its really busy you can encounter a wait to be seated because it’s not a very large restaurant. Although it was busy, we were able to get seats. The wait for our food to come out was pretty fast, maybe about a 10-15 minutes, everything is cooked to order.

About the food……it didn’t disappoint, finger licking good, one bite after the other and seasoned just right!! The ancestors are VERY PROUD….LOL!! My absolute favorite of everything we ordered was the collard green egg rolls, Mac/cheese oxtail egg rolls, the yams and mac & cheese….I love fish, theirs was tasty, just not fried hard enough for me, next time I’ll request that! My friend also loved his food, he got several things but his favorite was the gizzards, baked chicken and peach cobbler. This is genuinely some excellent soul food!! Don’t walk, but run to Whip My Soul….I promise you won’t be disappointed and if for any reason that you are…the owners are about customer satisfaction and will try to make it right for you!! I wish this business continued success

This was my first time here, we ordered to go and once I got home which I am about a 10 min drive food was nice and hot. It took about 30 minutes from the moment we ordered but its because chicken/fish and other items are made when ordered. As you can see alot of ppl really enjoy this place. We got there an hr before closing and they were still busy busy. If you haven’t been make sure you get wings and mean greens…

Whip My Soul you did not disappoint! Food was delish, customer service was on point and the energy was good. The restaurant was clean and everything came out quickly.

Top faves at the table would be the Oxtail & Mac Egg Rolls, Wings, Catfish, Mac n Cheese and the red beans and rice. Looking forward to coming back to try more things on the menu!

Excellent!!!!
Best soul food experienced in Austin.
Fish superb! Yams, yes ma’am. And those collards made me wanna holler over again and again. Simply, amazing as I wipe the succulent juices from my mouth hoping the bites never would stop.

Let me point out another important fact, the customer service. Exquisite! I made an order 15 minutes before closing and I mean EVERYBODY was awesome. From greeting to eating, nothing short of phenomenal. And the young gentleman that handed me glory, God bless you and your table side manners. They need to bottle it and sell it over and over again.

Thank you.

This is a MUST TRY They never fail to hit the spot, but these yams the last time I went had me in shambles for days. I brought my mom to try it for the first time and she said we know where we’ll be getting our cornbread from now on- we usually make everything ourselves. The seasoning on the meat is the perfect blend of savory and salty. One of the best restaurants in the Austin area.

Presentation of meal was about the best thing about this place. The attitude of the staff is low class. The atmosphere is cramped to say the least. The food is salted but little taste and too greasy for me. Proportions are fine. Decent location. Slow service. You even get to clean your own table right before you sit down and wait, and wait, and wait for your food.

If you want some REAL home cooked “Soul” food you need to try Whip my soul! I had the fried fish platter with collard greens and fried okra. Wife had the chicken wings with blacked eyed peas and the dressing. What an excellent choice! And don’t forget the peach cobbler. We even got one to go for later! In an effort to get in as many tables as possible seating is really tight and hard to navigate around. The place was packed when we were there and I understand why. The food is excellent! We will be back and soon!

Man O Man! Been wanting to try this place for a while and it was as expected, delicious. For starters we shared the macaroni & OxTail eggrolls. The were crispy and flavorful. Served with a red sweet chili sauce, I thought they taste better all on their own. I got a combination platter with the fried pork chop, chicken wing, and catfish fillet. Pork chop was delicious, chicken wing was ginormous, also good, and the catfish was surprisingly crunchy and flavorful. For my 2 sides I had the red beans and rice, and mean greens, well seasoned collard greens with pork I believe. All was delicious. I can’t wait to go back and get the shrimp and grits or the chicken & waffles.
