Who is Mickey? . . . David “Mickey” Crimmins and John “Bert” Mattson were the founders of Mickey’s Diner. Mickey’s Diner was built in New Jersey by the Jerry O’Mahoney Co., in 1937. The Diner was transported by flatbed car to its 9th and St. Peter Street location, where it has operated continuously, 24 hours a day, for over 70 years. Mickey’s was one of the first diners to be built in Art Deco. Previous diners had been all white, whereas Mickey’s boasts a bright red and cream streamline design. Mickey’s Diner was placed on the National Register of Historic Place in 1983 and is one of the first diners to be designated as such.I

This isn’t a restaurant, it’s a time machine and a legend!

When you walk in you are transported to a different time and place (it was literally built in NJ and moved to St. Paul) if you’re a tourist in the MSP area and have time for one meal anywhere this is where to to go.
Not because the food is amazing (for the price you won’t ro better) but for the experience. It’s a piece of history both diner history and local history, and it’s just cool.

The food is good, the staff is nice and friendly, and objectively it the best you’ll get for the price so if you aren’t looking for a slice of Americana and just want a slice of French toast I still recommend stopping by.

We were in MN for some sporting events and decided to stop in. The breakfast was good. Kind of reminded me of our Waffle Houses in the South except this is in an actual dining car. There’s a free parking lot specifically for Mickey’s customers. Amen for that! We walked in at 9 with open seating. It filled up just after that. Emily did a great job getting everyone situated and ordered! I was thoroughly impressed by Mohammed’s hash brown flipping skills! The food was good, albeit a little greasy. The open kitchen was kept decently clean, my coffee was always filled, and the food was cooked exactly to order. The portions are hefty and the prices are appropriate. It was cool to visit this historical landmark. I didn’t even know Mickey’s was famous as a filming location and I worked in the cities for a year.

Can’t believe the place is still open, honestly. And very sadly, because it used to be a great spot before it got sold. Went with my child to get a shake and a breakfast, the place was so filty and ridiculously expensive that we just left without ordering. I’m attaching photos to show the level of dirt and the menu prices. They charge $20 for a triple (only 1/4 lb) burger and for chicken and waffles! Had to rub my eyes when saw it.. then saw the $7 for a fake latte (from a machine that makes super cheap imitation beverages- also pictured). The finest restaurants in Minnesota don’t charge more than $6 for a latte.
How did they come up with those prices?
That dirty shake machine was just sitting there I could tell it was old dirt, no one had just used it, or the eggs that were just sitting out (we were there for about 10 minutes before we left).
Weird weird experience.

A must when in St. Paul. A wonderful dining experience in a converted train cab. The staff are very friendly and the service quick. The food is very good. If you sit at the counter, you’re literally right next to the flat top. Both breakfast and lunch are very good having been here multiple times while visiting. It can be hard to find a seat as it dies get busy. There is ample parking in a lot right next to it.

My best friend and I were wrapping up a trip, and I was so excited to show her Mickey’s diner. It’s been a good while since I’ve gone there, but that visit with my children was very special and very memorable. We were seated immediately, and our server was very kind, but as time went on, I realized that we had already been waiting 45 minutes for our meals. After asking our server about it, she checked on it and said our food should be ready soon. There was another 10 minutes or more. Now, the food was great, and the staff that were there were great. I just think they didn’t have enough people working, which is so common in restaurants. We enjoyed our meal very much, and I tried to buy some T-shirts before we left. They only had one T-shirt for sale. I bought it, but they missed an opportunity for me to buy six. I hope they can carry on, and find some more help. I do love this place! It is so nostalgic.

Excited we were finally able to stop into this landmark! Its cute and a fun experience. Food was ok. We will probably try something different if we go back. The cook was really friendly and made the experience better! The pancakes were great! We also ordered an omelet and ham and cheese sandwich. The kids loved sitting at the counter. Definitely stop in if you haven’t been here yet!

I’ve walked past here a banch of time’s, but never stopped in. Today I was CRAVING a party melt and this place completely satisfied that craving. So often, the bread to beef ratio at restaurants is so out of wack with their party melts, but it was perfection here. The patty was well seasoned and the onions and cheese were perfect. The staff was great and the place was unique as well. I will be back!!

Fun local place to hit up, have breakfast and talk with strangers. Seating is quite limited so make sure to come in quite early or you will be waiting… Food portions are quite hearty too. The ambience is the best thing about it!

We found this place just randomly, by searching restaurants around our hotel, and i have to say it was an amazing experience. My 11 year old son has never seen a traditional diner. Well this thing was a beauty. I had to explain what that thing in the wall was (coin operated jukebox). Super cool vibe. We had double stack pancakes, Cluck N Chuck Burger and Mickeys Sputnik Burger. We weren’t even that hungry but we devoured our food withing 10-15 mins. Burger patty’s we’re tender, delicious and super juicy. I always say the messier the burger the better it is. This was one of the best damn burgers I’ve ever had. Must visit if youre in St.Paul, MN.

Atmosphere: 5/5
The diner is built from an old train car and has a very cool retro interior. It’s clean and well maintained but looks like it’s been exactly the same since it opened which is very fun. They also had great music playing.

Furniture: 4/5
They had booths but it seems most of the seating is at the counter on diner style bar stools which are affixed to the floor. They’re plenty comfortable but I found them to be a little slick and they also don’t spin very well but it wasn’t a problem.

Dishware: 4/5
No complaints. Everything was just fine.

Food: 5/5
Portion sizes are very generous and the food was delicious. There were two of us and after the meals, drinks, and tip, the total was about $40 which was very reasonable for the amount of food we got.

Staff: 5/5
No complaints at all! Staff was great. They checked on us just enough and got us our food fairly quickly considering how busy they were.
