Not sure of the allure. For a steak joint whose main attraction is fries -they shouldn’t be frozen! The steak is mediocre at best. I expected more for almost $60 for a ribeye. The salad was warm iceberg. We went around 4. Wasn’t busy at all and the waiter dropped our food and never came back to even check on drinks or how food was $4 for an iced tea and never got a refill. The place is dimly lit and dirty Save yourself the money and try something better!

Excellent food that is cooked perfectly. The restaurant was cool despite the crazy heat outside, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I’m glad we stopped in and will stop again as soon as we can!
The atmosphere was pub like inside and things were clean and well lit.

We have thought about trying this place for years. Two things made me reluctant: mixed reviews and the prominent steak fries at a place that charges so much. There is some good and bad but ultimately we decided we won’t be back. The maple/grease smell called out in many reviews is real and not pleasant to me. It should be expected I guess, but expect to be bombarded by smoke from steak during a visit and taking it home with you. The service was great other than the speed they threw courses at us (still working on others when main arrives). The table was small which made the above even more uncomfortable. We had zucchini sticks for appetizer. They were crispy and the horseradish sauce was great. Wife had french onion soup and I had the salad. Tried the blue cheese dressing on recommendation from other reviewer. It was very mild which I enjoyed. We both had steaks, I the ribeye and she had the sirloin. If you do not want a giant steak this is not the place to come unless you are good with lesser cuts (wife settled as others were too big). I enjoyed my steak though I think the sauce would of worn me down if I hadn’t kept the horseradish sauce to dip it in. The sauce they put on the steak is what I can only assume is a soy sauce base. It gives a nice punch(at first) and adds lots of salt but would prefer to taste the meat. The mushrooms on the plate are presumably canned and I did not care for them. The steak fries were not good. They had varying degrees of being cooked, no salt/seasoning and are piled on top of the steak with no room to move them. Lastly we decided to share a dessert and went with the key lime pie. This was disappointing, the texture was not super smooth and it had coconut in/on it for which I am not a fan. I would never expect coconut in a key lime pie and if it had it I would expect it to be labeled “coconut key lime” or something.

One of my favorite places to eat in NJ!

From the moment you walk in, you get that cozy, nostalgic vibe—dark wood panels, warm lighting, and a no-frills atmosphere that screams “we’re here for the food.” The star of the show? The sizzling steaks, of course. Mine arrived still hissing from the grill, generously portioned, and cooked to perfection—juicy, tender, and full of flavor.

The sides didn’t hold back either. A mountain of golden fries, crispy onion rings, sautéed mushrooms, and hearty grilled veggies filled the plate. We also ordered extra mushrooms and some cherry peppers on the side, which added a great tangy kick to the meal. Everything tasted fresh and indulgent.

Drinks were on point too. I went with a glass of red wine, which paired beautifully with the richness of the steak. The service was friendly, and even though the place was busy, the staff was attentive and quick.

Overall, if you’re in the mood for a proper steakhouse dinner with generous portions and classic vibes, Steve’s delivers. It’s not trying to be fancy—it’s just really, really good at what it does.

The cuts of steak, not great quality, a lot of gristle to work through/around.

The way they cook everything in straight sherry is frankly almost sickening. The mushrooms that come with the steak have soaked up so much of said sherry sauce they are practically inedible.

We asked for steak sauce hoping it would improve the experience, but they brought a liquid indiscernable from coconut liquid amino acids—basically knock-off soy sauce.

The broccoli was steamed so much that it could have been made into a puree.

The service was fast and medium-attentive.

I’m not someone that goes to Jersey often (or ever). And this is basically why.

Leaving 2 stars not 1 because the service was adequate and atmosphere was normal for a bar/steakhouse, and it is possible Jersey just isn’t for me (or any other chef or foodie). They weren’t rude to us or anything.

Personally I’m more of a steak au Poivre kind of guy. Maybe this style of cuisine is just lost on me. But honestly I would have derived far more culinary pleasure with a burger from 5 Guys.

The restaurant has a very down-home, relaxed atmosphere and has been around since 1936, and I can understand why. I had the 6 oz Filet Mignon and my boyfriend had the 20 oz Porterhouse. Both meals not only smelled incredible, they tasted amazing too! The service was also outstanding! It was well worth the trip!

Great local steak place with lots of history! Very unique, either the interior decoration, which we loved, and the way they made steak. Ribeye was good, but all steaks were too well done for medium rare order. The meat quality was not great. Overall visiting the place was a super fun experience!

We went to this place twice and both time we left satisfied. The food is good, we had mozzarella sticks one of the best we’ve had, Buffalo chicken wings are truly hot, French onion soup is good, but not the best. I will warn you as everyone else here not to order steak with signature sauce, order it on the side, it is very salty. So I can’t even really tell about whether I liked the steak or not. The burgers are worth a try. I personally like the interior inside, it made dinning experience even better. Good service.

I am ready to review this place Steve’s Steakhouse in the quaint town of Carlstandt, NJ. Before even getting my food, I was captured by the smell of their secret sauce; revealed by another satisfied customer and the service at the door was great. Now for the food if someone’s momma was near by I would have had to slap her. IT WAS EVERY BIT, SIMPLY PUT, SCRUMPTIOUS. Highly, highly recommended. Ask for Brandon who was amazing with how to navigate and chose something from the menu.
