I celebrated my birthday here on Dec. 3rd with 8 others and we had tasty food. Their food portions are pretty big for one person so most of us split a meal. During dessert the mariachi came to sing happy birthday they were awesome. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendly waitresses and waiters.

Where does one even begin with this experience at El Tapatio? From start to finish, it was nothing short of disappointing this evening.
First, upon walking in, we were not greeted by a hostess. Instead, they were hidden behind the wall on the other side of the hostess stand. When she finally emerged (either the manager or hostess) from behind the wall, she just stood there, there was no warm greeting or apology for the wait. Instead, she simply stared at us with an expression that seemed to ask, “What do you need?” No “Hi, welcome to El Tapatio” or any form of acknowledgment. I had to directly tell her party of 7 please.
While we waited for our table, the second hostess came from behind the wall and was assisting another party. She grabbed menus and silverware but failed to mention to the party that they needed to follow her to their table. The guests looked confused when the hostess returned to stand gesturing as if they didn’t understand that they were to follow her to their table. It was obvious she hadn’t properly communicated with them, which only added to the disorganized and unprofessional atmosphere of the restaurant.
Once our table was ready, she nonchalantly said, “Follow me,” and we did. Unfortunately, she then proceeded to walk past our assigned table without letting us know this was were we would be seated. She noticed our party was still following her, her response was “Oh, that was your table”. The lack of professionalism was truly astonishing.
And then there was the food—specifically the rice, which was cold and dry.
Overall, this was an incredibly disappointing experience. From the rude, inattentive service to the subpar food.

We used to love this place, but today was unacceptable. While eating, we saw a live cockroach crawling right next to our table. We took a clear photo and showed it to staff, and they admitted they were already aware of the issue. Despite this, they seated us there and refused to give us a refund only offering the food for free, which we did not feel comfortable eating after what we saw. Extremely disappointing and a major food safety concern.

I’m so glad I live in the neighborhood around this bar that allows me to be considered a regular there if I want to. It’s dark Rich Wood appointed with a bar and ballroom on one side and a large dining room on the other. The food is really delicious. It’s interesting because I want to pick up food and sat at the bar while I waited. Many of the people there at 4 o’clock in the afternoon are doing homework or other things for work. They’re in their computers in a booth and just being treated as friendly as anybody spending lots of money. The food was so surprisingly good that I have to go back and check out what else they have. We had the shrimp street tacos and a chicken mole entree. Both were tasty. The shrimp tacos were nicely appointed and had some interesting flavors. It goes to show you that not all street tacos are made the same. I’m gonna go and work at the bar someday coming up soon. Say hi everybody else does.

COCKROACHES!!!
If I could do Zero stars I would. We used love eating here but after today I will never be back. We found a cockroach at our table and notified a manager DISCREETLY to not aware other customers as we initially thought they had no idea. He came to the table and smashed it and then apologized. We still received a check even after speaking to the manager about not wanting to pay due to our findings they still required us to pay but since we felt disgusted we payed and left. After talking to the manager about the incident it seems they’ve known about the issue for a while. He said and I quote “ sorry we’ve been trying to clean more, but when there’s 1 there’s many “ So I did try to call back after leaving to get a refund but was told no aggressively and then got hung up on. Since we didn’t receive good service about this we will definitely be contacting the Health Department because that is DISGUSTING especially since it seems they’ve known about it for a while and know that there are more than the 1 we found.

El tapatio use to be my go to for a classic Mexican joint no frills until I moved out of Arvada 2 years ago. Went back again for dinner yesterday and holy SALTY!!
Came with a party of 7. Got seated right away and service was pretty quick. We were charged $2.50 x 3 for chips and salsa which… you use to be able to eat it free and however much you want!!
Ordered 2 smothered carne asada burrito ($12), kids hamburger ($7) and couldn’t even be eaten because it tasted like they dumped the entire salt container!! Waiter took the plate and decided to order nothing more. Rest of table ordered carnitas plate ($19), chimichanga ($15) enchiladas ($17) beef taco with rice and beans and truly just mediocre. The roof was even leaking over our table from the snow! Definitely won’t be back again.. yikes!!

you could smell detergent when you walked in and again when we left. My beer had a strong detergent order i asked for a new one. My son in law just drank his but told me his has a strong detergent order in the glass
