Cute decor. Small store on one side, restaurant on the other. Food was excellent. Best pastrami I’ve ever tasted. Chicken salad was made with fresh cooked, pulled chicken breast. Seating was a little tight for my taste. Our server (young Asian woman) was super nice, maybe aggressively so, and a little too overbearing, coming to the table way too often, interrupting our conversation, asking questions and standing there waiting for an answer when our mouths were full (we just told you 5 min ago everything was good), dropping the check then coming back minutes later to inform us where to go to pay, I felt a little rushed, even though there were lots of empty tables. Miss…relax. Another server (older caucasian lady) I went up to and asked for an extra bowl (when I didn’t see our server) had a gruff, dismissive attitude, actually turned her back and tried to ignore me. Everyone seemed to be just going through the motions with dead expressions on their faces. It was weird. Theres a small, chaotic parking lot in the back, not worth the trouble, park on the street if you can. BUT…the food was really good! And they have merch! A little pricey ($70 for 2 sandwiches, a small matzoh ball soup, and a desert), but, it’s the main line, so…

Fantastic Jewish deli. Seating is limited but table turn is very quick. Also parking can be difficult although there is parking outback. Difference between cup of soup and bowl of soup is one matzoh ball for a cup and two for a bowl they are very generous in size. Food is amazing. Don’t forget to take a look at the actual shop itself they have Lots of desserts to take home as well. Highly recommend and will stop here again. Don’t forget the pickle bar it’s delicious.

Hymies played a significant role in shaping my life, as it was where I formed a lifelong friendship with my co-worker Paul, he is family to me. It was one of my earliest jobs back in the 1980s, and during my teenage years, I would frequently switch between their different city deli locations. Whenever I needed extra money, I would return to work at Hymies and was always welcomed with open arms. The owner, Sam Barson, and the deli manager, Ivan, taught me valuable work ethic skills that have stayed with me throughout the years. Eventually, Louis, Sam’s son, took over the operation and has successfully elevated the establishment to new heights while maintaining the same classic deli style with added menu items.

On a recent visit to Hymies, I was pleasantly surprised to find options for vegans, such as the açai bowl, salads, impossible burger, and other dishes that could be customized to be vegan-friendly. Despite the lack of a dedicated vegan section, the staff were incredibly accommodating and made sure I had a satisfying meal. The generous portions and fresh ingredients of the bagel I ordered, along with various toppings, made for a delightful vegan treat. I believe that adding a small vegan section to the menu, with ingredients like tofu, tempeh, edamame, and seitan, would attract more patrons seeking plant-based options.

Although vegan dishes may not be explicitly listed on the menu, I appreciate the restaurant’s willingness to accommodate alternative dietary preferences. Regardless, the nostalgic atmosphere of Hymies, coupled with their impeccable service and delicious sandwiches, make it a must-visit for anyone in search of a classic deli experience. I extend my gratitude to Louis for his outstanding management and for upholding this suburban legend with pride.

Pretty great food, they were very packed and service was a little slow. But that’s not their fault. The prices were really good I’ll admit.

The only bad thing is it is impossible to find parking and if you don’t have change good luck. The whole place was a signal dead zone so I couldn’t download the app to pay the meter. Had to rush in and out and tons of cars around me were ticketed.

I was working so my pics are in my car. Ordered Lox spread on an “Everything” bagel. Freshly made and creamy. I appreciated the veggies added to my bagel, making it a sandwich. Most shops would just be content giving you the bagel and spread. Hymies will be on my repeat list!

All the locals told us this is a do-not-miss place for their NYC-style deli sandwiches, wow, they were right!

One of the best corned beef and pastrami sandwiches around!

Plus, they offer a free pickle station.

Kim, our server, was one of the best, friendly, funny, and wittiest.

Quantity & quality of the food, excellent service, all made it one of the best value places for a casual dining experience.

Will go again when in that part of Philadelphia.

Oh, their cakes are a must-have too!
Reminder, each slice was enough to feed the four of us.

I didn’t eat inside it was a take out. The sandwich was dry like it had been on another sandwich. Leftover meat. The pickles were like someone picked it. The onions rings were great. I’ve had this same sandwich from here inside the store. It was great. But take out has a lot to be desired. NEVER AGAIN. I KNOW FOOD. My husband was a chef. I’ve worked in these places. You are going down.

This was my first time ordering from Hymies. I ordered a Hot corned beef on rye… “Rye” … It tasted like white bread and was just as soft… It didn’t hold up to the hot corned beef… If you go to a Jewish deli one who expect to get a good Jewish rye not some soggy pretend rye … I asked for mustard on it… To call it a spritz would be generous.

Now, the corned beef was excellent… Just the right amount of fat and the flavor was phenomenal. But, on soggy Bread it truly detracted …

And, a side of fries… They must have been sitting for an hour waiting for a take out order, because if I had been seated they would have been returned to the kitchen…

And, to get a soggy corned beef with old dry cold fries I waited 20 minutes… Definitely not worth a revisit… Or the $22

After 12 years in the Midwest followed by 2 years in the Southwest, a Reuben lake with coleslaw at Hymie’s was the perfect deli lunch. Our server wasn’t very attentive after bringing our food, and we would have loved more coffee and tea before getting our check and boxes for our leftovers, but I will definitely go back to try the whitefish, the brisket, the pastrami, and the French toast as long as today’s service was a fluke.
