On Sunday evening, March 8, 2026, around 5:30 PM, I stopped in for dinner while in Spearfish, South Dakota. From the moment I walked through the door, the hostess greeted me warmly. She was kind, welcoming, and took a moment to ask how I was doing before seating me, which immediately set a pleasant tone for the evening.
Unfortunately, the experience shifted somewhat once my waitress arrived. She seemed rushed and a bit distant, offering short responses and very little warmth. There wasn’t much of a smile or conversation, which made the interaction feel a little impersonal.
The food arrived with good portion sizes and a decent presentation. Overall, the flavors were good, though coming from a place where Tex-Mex cuisine tends to set a certain standard, I found the ground beef in both the tacos and the ground beef enchiladas wasn’t quite what I expected. The chips and salsa were fine—perfectly acceptable, but fairly ordinary.
The real highlight of the meal was the guacamole. It was fresh, flavorful, and easily the star of the table. The only downside was that the portion felt a little small for the price.
All in all, it was a mixed experience while visiting Spearfish—some pleasant moments, especially with the food presentation and guacamole, though the service and a few flavor expectations left a bit of room for improvement.

This place is so fun. Don’t be intimidated by the full parking lot, the inside is huge. From the outside it looked like a 30 minute wait and when we walked in we got seated right away. The value you here is tremendous. There mild salsa was fresh, had zing without hear and packed with onions and tomatoes. I had the molcajete which is a savory soup filled with chicken, steak and veggies in a tomato base served with rice and sour cream upon request. I recommend getting both. Caryn had the the bacon wrapped shrimp and loved every bite. The guacamole is fresh, the service is top notch, you can tell this is run by a family. Don’t miss it.

We really wanted to like this place and would have went back several times if the food was better. I ordered a new dish with bacon wrapped shrimp which came out pretty quick with a separate plate of beans, lettuce, rice and guacamole. The shrimp were apparently wrapped in bacon and then deep fried until leather. I couldn’t even tear them apart.
The hostess offered to make something else but when my GF tasted hers (chicken), it was just flavorless and bland. Thank you for taking the shrimp off of my bill, but we wouldn’t return
On the plus side: great margaritas and the decor was very nice.

Service was excellent. We were seated right away. Water and chips and salsa came immediately to the table. Our server waited on us immediately and drinks and food came out quickly. Food was hot and very good. My husband and I had the chimichangas which were good. But my son had the 2 crispy chicken burritos which were excellent. Wish I would have had that. Glad we stopped here as we were from out of town and passing through Spearfish.

The food was very good but the waitress didn’t look too friendly and came across as not really wanting to be there. I’m a stickler for service and the rate would have been lower but the menu more than made up for that. Go for the food not the smiles.

Had dinner here while camping next door at the KOA. Great atmosphere, fun decor, and all the typical combos of tasty Mexican foods. We did a few combo platters and loved every bite. Family run with really friendly staff. Service was great.

Sense we moved here 15 years ago, this is our go too restaurant, Always excellent hot food, excellent service, never had bad meal or bad service here.Waitresses are always nice and friendly. Food arrives fast. Even family , friends that we have taken to the restaurant. Still rave about about the food , service that they had their. And that was 10 years ago at least, that they visited the restaurant. Recently they remodeled and the hand paint jobs on the walls .Are really good.

Staying at the KOA Next-door and grabbed to-go on a Sunday night after a long drive in. Not only were they open to 930 on a Sunday, which was helpful, but the food was good.
Like really good. Tacos had lots of meat, and taco shell for taco salad was crispy and good flavor. Prices were reasonable.
Taated like real food, not greasy like some fat food.
Also, the owner was there when I came in (at 830pm on a Sunday) hung in the entry way were pictures of his family, and the thank-you notes they’ve received for donations made to the local community.
It’s the kind of food you hope to find, and the kind of business you feel good supporting.
