It takes them 40 minutes to cook your deep dish…but worth the wait!
My husband and I decided to switch things up with a Tuesday date night, and this was our first time trying Pizza Papalis. We ordered the deep dish veggie pizza with mushrooms, spinach, banana peppers, green peppers, and green olives—loaded and delicious! We also got the cheesy bread with spinach and feta cheese that was pretty good. My husband had to get French fries and Surprisingly, they ended up being a favorite too—crispy, well-seasoned, and way better than we expected. I had an Amaretto Sour, which was smooth and refreshing, while my husband enjoyed the Italian Cherry Margarita.
Our waitress was very nice and checked on us often, which made the experience even better. We’ll definitely be back, especially to take advantage of the half-off Tuesday pizza deal with the purchase of an appetizer.
We’re also excited to go back once the weather breaks so we can enjoy the breeze with the garage-style windows open—it looks like the perfect summer vibe! The only downside? Parking can be a bit of a challenge. But overall, great food, friendly service, and a perfect spot for a chill night out.
I got seated right away. There were a few other tables with people. Not too busy.
I over heard that a large pizza takes 45 minutes to cook. Since I didn’t have a lot of time, I went with the 6″ pepperoni pizza. The pizza came out in about 10 minutes.
The chicago style pizza was a bit of a surprise. The sauce was on top! First the crust, then pepperoni, cheese, and sauce.
I can understand why it takes so long to cook a large. The crust is thick. Double layer. The crust was delicious. A bit crunchy. I couldn’t really taste the pepperoni, being burried beneath everything. The sauce was good, nice flavor, good balance of herbs and spices.
Overall, the pizza was good.
I’ve read some of the comments about the pizza. How some said the pizza wasn’t cooked all the way. I can understand that. The oven is not the conveyor belt style the chain pizza places use. The oven is more like a rotisserie. The pizza’s circle around and around. The chef has to decide when the pizza is done.
Overall, I liked the pizza.
HOWEVER: Parking will be your biggest hurdle when you get here, spin around the block if you don’t find a spot right away. Parking is street-side and has automated meters that you scan a QR code for and pay through your phone. If you can’t find any street parking, try the parking garage across the street, though you may have to pay more.
