We visited Terrasse William Gray as tourists around 2:00 pm, hoping to enjoy a couple of drinks and the view from their igloos. Upon arrival, we were told that the only option available was a fixed 5-course “experience” priced at $120 per person, and that we would not be seated in the igloos with a view. Instead, the only igloo offered was located at the back of the restaurant, with no view (although it did have a fire pit).
Since we had just finished lunch and didn’t feel we would enjoy a full tasting menu, we decided to make a reservation for the evening instead. For dinner, the price increased to $170 per person, before taxes, and required full payment upfront to secure the table — again, for the same igloo without a view. Despite our hesitation, we went ahead and booked it to experience what the restaurant had to offer.
About 30 minutes after leaving the restaurant, we realized we wouldn’t make it back in time due to sightseeing in the area and called to cancel. We were informed that the payment was non-refundable, which was disappointing.
When we arrived later that evening, the table was ready, and the staff was genuinely friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the experience fell short when it came to the service and food. Our server was unable to answer basic questions about the menu, which made us feel they were not very familiar with it. The food itself was nicely presented but ultimately forgettable — nothing stood out or felt worth the high price.
In the end, we paid around $700 for dinner for four, and it was not an experience we truly enjoyed. While the ambiance and location are beautiful, the pricing, rigid policies, and underwhelming food made this feel more like a tourist trap than a memorable dining experience.

The brunch was outstanding from start to finish, with delicious food, excellent service, and the unforgettable espresso martini tree adding a fun and festive touch. The atmosphere was cozy yet elegant, making it the perfect place to gather and linger.

Spending quality time with amazing company in such a beautiful setting during the holiday season made this experience even more memorable. An absolute treat, and a spot I would happily return to again and again.
The service was excellent, our server was very efficient and attentive. It was unfortunate that you can only be there for a max of 2 hours, although our server did offer to see if it was possible to move us to a different table.
Everything we ordered was really good and I can recommend without hesitation as we will go back for sure.
The food was average overall , the burger and fries were typical of many mid-range spots, and although the duck salad was creative, it felt overpriced for its simplicity. The steak was well-cooked and flavorful but didn’t quite meet the premium standard suggested by the restaurant’s reputation and prices.
Overall, the food quality didn’t fully justify the cost.
That said, the ambiance and view were outstanding, overlooking Montreal’s Old Port, the setting alone makes the visit memorable. If you’re going for the atmosphere, it’s worth it; if you’re going for exceptional cuisine, you may leave a bit disappointed.
We arrived without reservation and we got a table with a great view. We needed an extra chair for our staff and the waiter accommodated this request. We get a good selection of meals and at the end we spent 90 excellent minutes with good drinks, good food and a great view . If you have a moment and you want to enjoy food view and drinks give a try and stop by.
We were a group of 20, and there was a misunderstanding about a minimum spending requirement of 3,000 Canadian dollars, which the restaurant claimed was confirmed by email. Initially, staff insisted that this amount was binding, regardless of what we actually consumed. For quite some time, there was no flexibility and no access to a manager, which made the situation frustrating and unprofessional. This is not something you expect from a modern, industrialized country like Canada.
After about an hour of discussion, the restaurant finally agreed to charge us only for what we had consumed, which we appreciated. However, it should not have required such a lengthy and tense discussion to reach a fair outcome. A minimum of 18% tip is also kind of like putting a gun to the guests head.
As for the food, it was mixed. The crispy shrimp and burrata cheese starters were both very good, but the main dishes were less convincing. The “fish of the day” was small and rather bland, while the alternative, the William Gray Beef Skewer, though nicely cooked, was overwhelmed by a bitter sauce.
The setting and a few of the starters were enjoyable, although too noisy for a high-end restaurant. The service and management approach were far below expectations, however. A more flexible and customer-focused attitude would go a long way toward making Terrace William Gray live up to its potential.
Since weekends are reserved for brunch, we enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken and waffles and a lobster benedict—both prepared perfectly. The drink selection was great as well, but what really stood out was the service.
We were looked after by David, who went above and beyond to make sure our experience was memorable. It’s a special place where you feel genuinely welcomed, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit.
