The staff handled a large group without any mix-ups, which I appreciated. The main downside was how slow the food came out. A couple of people were nearly finished before others had even been served, which took the shine off the experience a bit.
My own meal was fine. The steak was cooked as ordered and tasted good, though the portion felt a little on the small side. Presentation was fairly plain. I had expected something a bit more polished based on Côte’s usual standard, but it came across as quite generic.
The restaurant was extremely noisy, to the point where it was hard to hear the person next to me. To be fair, it was peak Christmas season, so some of that is to be expected, but it still made the meal feel less relaxed.
One thing that really let the place down was the state of the toilets. They weren’t very clean and clearly needed more frequent attention, especially on a busy night.
In short, an acceptable visit with good food, but the slow service, noise, and lack of attention to some details stopped it from being as enjoyable as it could have been.
Certainly the people on the table who ordered the steak left feeling hungry still, and commented that it didn’t come out cooked to their stated preference.
The staff were bumbling around getting in each others way and bringing food to the wrong tables.
The waitress deserves a gold medal for keeping a smile on her face while helping my rather demanding 83 year old friend , I am really sorry he has no patience with the amazing staff.
Fantastic crab pate as a starter. All had steak and most were great. Lovely chips and were offered more.
Only issue was we had to ask for the bill twice otherwise would have given five stars
Today we went for another meal but again it was not at their usual standards.
The onion soup had more bread then soup let alone cheese in it . No one checked on us if the food was ok till we complained and we had to call the waitress over to return the soup plus we had to chase to get the wine we ordered.
We understand that times are difficult, but the price on the menu has increased so one expects the standards as it used to be which used to be excellent.
Service is consistently slow at lunchtime and my recent visit was no different, perhaps this is due to the waiting staff being a bit thin on the ground? HoweverI object to the additional 10% service charge made regardless of the quality of service. A 3 course set menu lunch for 2 took 2 whole hours!
Atmosphere is general good, and feels vibrant! I like it…
