Storied seafood counter joint with New England vibe dishing fried clams, chowders & more.

Great local seafood place in Rockville Center. Bigelow’s has been around since 1939 and it is nothing fancy. They offer excellent New England and Manhattan clam chowder soups, as well fried shrimp and clam strips platters. Try Bigelow’s New England Seafood. You will not be disappointed.

While waiting for my car to get fixed, I stumbled upon this quaint little clam bar that immediately stole my heart. Stepping inside, I was transported to a different era — rustic, cozy, and full of character. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with vintage decor and the smell of fresh seafood in the air.
The highlight was, of course, the New England clam chowder -incredibly fresh and expertly prepared, rich and flavorful. Their fried clam strip sandwich…absolutely delicious! The staff was friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Locals come in and everyone knows all the tea.
This place is a true hidden treasure, perfect for anyone craving authentic seafood in a relaxed setting. If you find yourself nearby, definitely give it a try — it’s a delightful find that’s well worth the detour!

Fresh seafood brought here for generations.
Today they only had flounder and salmon. We orders salmon and it was excellent.
I generally don’t like fried food, so fried clams were not up my alley.
One way or another, the simple menu is well worth coming here and having a fresh grilled fish for lunch.
Lots of seating places. See the pics.

Simply put this is the greatest New England style fried seafood you’re ever going to eat. Run, don’t walk if you’re in the mood for seafood. Exceptional courtesy. Exceptional service by a friendly family-owned business. The food is always extremely fresh. Everything that comes to your table is delicious. I have been a chef since 1987 in the food service industry and I could go anywhere to get fish but I will always go out of my way to come here because it’s the best experience I’ve ever had.

It’s been a long time since I’ve returned to Bigelow’s since I moved out of state. My job has me frequently traveling and I just so happen to visit NY from time to time. I relived my childhood when my aunt use to bring me here to get the popcorn shrimp and fries. Still delicious to this day. Highly recommend and I’m glad this place is still around after all these years.

My mom took me here years ago and we loved it, so we finally went back and we’re so happy with it. We ordered too much food but wanted to try a few things.
We had the mini crab cakes appetizer which had a nice sauce with it. My mom had the bay scallops, and I did the fried shrimp with a half order of popcorn shrimp Buffalo style since we wanted to try that. We had onion rings and cole slaw. All the seafood is delicious and fresh. The orders are massive.
We sat in the outdoor area on a nice warm evening, service was great and our waiter was so nice. The tartar sauce here is probably the best tartar sauce I’ve ever had.

Made us feel like we were back in Ocean City. The service was so fast that by the time we looked around the restaurant the food was there. I’m talking 3 minutes tops. Clam strips some of the best we’ve ever had.
Also the prices were extremely fair. Definitely returning again.

Unbelievable! Wonderfully engaging staff. Clean and nice restaurant. The New England clam chowder cannot be beat! Fried clams are like butter. The crab cakes are made with PLENTY of real crab meat! They have an amazing salad served with fresh avocado! Everything is always so deliciously fresh and crisp. Thus far each and every dish is consistently amazing! So worth the 2 hour drive! Lastly but certainly not least, desert! Warm blueberry cobbler, decadent and plentiful slice of homemade fudge chocolate cake and a hot fudge sundae to die for !

I’m still thinking about this meal. I went for the fried clams with the belly (the only way to do it, trust me) and they were everything—crispy, flavorful, and just melt-in-your-mouth perfection. I paired them with a little tartar sauce and lemon.
I also ordered the cold lobster roll… speechless. The lobster was so fresh and tender, and the homemade coleslaw on the side balanced it perfectly. Drink could use little more flavor— but everything just felt so thought out but not overdone.
On top of that, the service? 10/10. The waiter was so nice and walked me through the menu as they have so many options, he definitely made the whole experience even better. I’m already planning my next visit because there’s still so much on the menu calling my name. If you’re in the area, this place is a must.

I fell in love with this place on my first visit. It had a lively atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly. I used to have a go-to spot for lobster rolls, but it closed during the pandemic. Since then, I’ve been looking for a good, fresh lobster roll for years, and I was always disappointed. The lobster roll here was excellent, and the fish and chips were just as good. I’ll definitely be coming back.
