In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. This was the third Black Bear diner we have been too, and it was just as impressive as the others. It wasn’t busy when we went early in the morning, and the food was made quickly. I would recommend anyone wanting a good breakfast with good sized portions to come here.

This is one of my favorite breakfast spots. The menu is full of all sorts of choices and the portions are big. We even had a Mimosa and Bloody Mary to compliment the great meal. The service is always good and friendly. They were sweet to my friend and gave her a birthday treat to make her day!

We wanted to have breakfast somewhere different so we tried Black Bear Diner. I’m glad we did. The atmosphere is of black bears throughout the diner. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food we had ordered came out quickly and tasted wonderful. I ordered the California omelette with one pancake and creamy grits. It was very filling. I see myself coming back to Black Bear Diner next time I’m in California.

I’ve often heard of Black Bear Diner, so we stopped here for breakfast. whoa!, what platters! the Grizz breakfast platter beats Dennys with a stick. Helen and I shared one Grizz and it was more than enough for both of us. Everything was fresh, perfectly done, and delicious.

Some of the best comfort food around! The servers are friendly this place can get busy at times, so be ready to wait if you have to. I come here for the biscuits and gravy, the sweet cream pancakes, the chicken fried steak and the pot roast….and everything else i have tried has been A+++!
One thing to keep in mind when dining at this brand: YOUR SERVER IS REQUIRED TO POOL THEIR CC TIPS WITH ALL OTHER SERVERS/BUSSERS/ETC…so if you feel very well taken care of by your server, or can leave a CASH TIP, then I recommend doing so…. Having been in the industry for years, my lifeline often was my customers & thanks for listening!!

Excellent diner with rustic decor. Numerous food choices and fast service. The prices are reasonable and good sized portions. Clean bathrooms. The parking lot is not overly large but there is plenty of other parking as the restaurant is in the same retail park as numerous other businesses with plenty of shared parking

Sausage patties were only cooked on the outside. I tasted it and it didn’t taste right. I checked and it was extremely pink. We asked them to cook it longer and were told by the cook that they cooked it to the right temperature already. Hash brown was also only cooked on the outside. Two plates were criminally undercooked. This place needs to be shut down by the health department.

Our waiter disappeared. Never saw him after the food served. We refilled our own drinks. Had to hunt him down to get our ticket. I asked him what happened, he just half smiled and didn’t say much. I do not think this is typical. But, it did happen.

This was my first time eating here and I was very impressed! The service is excellent and the restaurant is clean! I was especially pleased with the size of the portions and (of course) the taste! Everything was sooo yummy! Biscuits and gravy chicken fried steak with red potatoes and cali omelet with bacon and cheese hashbrowns shown in pics! I recommend it all!
