Beautiful view at Steveston (Richmond), but the food was a bit of a letdown
We visited Pajo’s Famous Fish & Chips at their Steveston Wharf location as our first stop in the area. The location is stunning and the waterfront view is definitely the highlight of the experience. The service was also very friendly.
Pros:
• Atmosphere: You can’t beat the view here; sitting by the water makes the meal much more enjoyable.
• Ordering System: I really liked their paging system. Having a loudspeaker announce the numbers is much better and more organized than the constant shouting you hear at places like Costco.
• Fish Quality: The fish itself (cod, salmon, and halibut) was fresh and delicate.
• Price: Very reasonable for the area. We paid 41 CAD (including a 10% tip) for the “One of Each and Fries” combo.
Cons:
• The Batter: While the fish was fresh, the batter was unfortunately very greasy, which overshadowed the natural taste of the fish.
• The Fries: This was the biggest disappointment. The fries were quite oily and lacked flavor. If you’re expecting high-quality, crispy fries (even with the bottomless option), you might be disappointed.
Final thoughts:
They have a promotion where you can win a 200 CAD gift card for leaving a 5-star review, but I want to stay objective. While the scenery and service at Pajo’s are great, the greasiness of the meal means I can only give it 3 stars. It’s a nice place to sit, but the food has room for improvement

We started with two salmon tacos and two shrimp tacos, then swapped them out to try each one. It was pretty good! The fish and salmon flavours were tasty, and the crispy taco had just the right amount of veggies and sauce.

Fish served hot and good.
Fries is okay.
however, I don’t like the salmon. Not that it is not fresh or cook well, just personally, to me, salmon taste a bit weird when it is deep fired. =(

Had an amazing meal at Pajo’s Fish & Chips in Steveston! The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, the fries were hot and fresh, and the waterfront view made it even better. Classic West Coast fish and chips done right. Will definitely be back!

Had the halibut and chips. The fish and chips itself were nothing to write home about. Batter wasnt very crispy, fish itself was tasty though.

Very cool location, worth checking out on a sunny day.

I always go for the cod here. It comes out tender and not dry, which is exactly what I want in fish and chips. The fries are great too, and the free refills are a nice bonus.

It is definitely nicest in the summer, but I still enjoy it on a clear day even if it is a bit chilly. There is some seating on the wharf, which adds to the whole experience.

Just make sure to check their hours since they operate seasonally.

Pajo’s Fish and Chips is an absolute must-try! The seafood is incredibly fresh, cooked to perfection, and the crispy batter is light and flavorful. Every bite tastes like it was made with care and the highest quality ingredients. On top of that, the location is unbeatable—a beautiful spot by the water that feels like a refreshing escape from the city. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this place is a true gem you shouldn’t miss!

Returned to this special place after 17 years and things really don’t change much, I mean, the whole Steveston environment. We enjoyed our food a lot. Definitely the best place to have a fish and chips in the entire country.

I loved the experience! The atmosphere is super pleasant, and the food truly stands out compared to many restaurants in the area. The flavors are amazing, and the versatility of the menu makes it easy to enjoy your meal even while strolling along the pier — which I found to be a charming touch.

Another highlight is the generous portion sizes, plus the free refills on fries, which is a rare and welcome bonus. Overall, my experience was excellent, and I’ll definitely be coming back!
