I went there for my birthday. I had made reservations so we were seated immediately. The restaurant was clean and had a nice atmosphere. Our server was delightful and entertaining. Overall, it was a great experience and the food was amazing.

A group of us went to Benihana in Boca Raton for lunch. We were so excited to enjoy hibachi for lunch. However, we quickly realized this lunch would not be an enjoyable experience. When we arrived, no one was there to greet anyone. After standing there for almost 10 minutes, someone came to greet us but said we would need to wait a few more minutes before we were seated. Unfortunately, we would not be able to enjoy hibachi cooked in front of us due to not having a chef available. Therefore we were seated by Ingrid at a booth. After we were seated, it took almost another 10 minutes for our waitress to come to our table. It was becoming apparent they were either short staffed or lacked time management which is why we gave our drink and food orders at the same time. As we were waiting for our food, we noticed more people coming in and leaving after not being seated. We spoke to Ingrid who identified herself as one of the managers what was causing the extensive wait. She began to share how short staffed they were and overall concern about upper management not properly scheduling staff. When we finally received our food, it was time to leave to return to work. Due to the experience Ingrid was kind enough to adjust our bill. However, the overall lunch experience at Benihana’s was disappointing for a restaurant who has created a legacy surrounding their experience. I doubt we will return to this location again

I think the biggest problem with this establishment is just poor management. We saw a couple of observations during the evening that disappointed us most likely resulting is just poor organization poorly managed staff and probably unmotivated staff is probably a bigger problem here.

We arrived at 5pm after I received a text at 4:45 that our table is ready. Manager (or assistant manager we are unconfirmed on any of the management names) told us to wait on a 5:00 reservation. We didn’t even get sitting at our table till 5:10 with an open restaurant

They took an extra few minutes to wipe down all the menus before they gave them to us something we feel should have been done at 3:00 or when the staff arrives prepping all the menus. They’re not that busy when we arrived with only about two tables actually sitting.

The menu had a good selection with pricey items probably not less than $42 but but wait it gets worse. There was a $7.50 up charge on fried rice. On meals that were costing between $42 and $55. Yes you read that right with a little bit of rice with soy sauce they’re going to charge you $7.50 extra on top of a 42 or 55.00 meal.

Manager(or assistant ) came by at the end of our meal and checked on the ovens on both the table next to us and ours and didn’t speak a word or even ask how our evening was. This is a missed opportunity to engage with customers to get a genuine feedback on their experience.

We ordered specialty dinners (6 items) including the white rice that didn’t arrive till we were completely done with the dinner. Oddly enough this stuff is clearly prepped far in advance as we saw a giant tubs being cooked behind the counter. This is just poor waiter management.

After we were all waiting and done for dinner we asked the waiter (Collin) if there was ice cream included with our specialty dinners. He asked us the question “who had specialty dinners ” he’s the one who took the order he should have known. My feeling is if we didn’t remind him about it that would have been another thing that he would have missed.

Our cook (Martin) was a really nice guy he was personable and he did really well. I think our waiter (Collin) was distracted with too many other things singing happy birthday with tambourines and other tables and missing out serving us properly.

The preparation of the food was a little disorganized forgetting some of the menu items that were ordered until literally everyone else was finished their meal. One of our guests in our party didn’t get their chicken till after we were all completely even done.

Would I go back? Most likely not Boca has too many other dining options for this sort of pricing value. Poor management under trained staff is not something that I want to drop $55 per person on a table. We can get far much better quality food and service and most restaurants around the Boca Raton restaurants.

My family and I had lunch and really enjoyed the place. The waiter was very good and was on his game. He was timely and didn’t miss a beat. When Adolfo Emilio our chef showed it got even better. He was humorous and gave us a better cooking show than we’ve had on previous visits. He prepared all our meals to perfection. I had the duet with steak and shrimp. It was scrumptious.

Benihana offers a lively hibachi experience that the chain is known for. A chef cooks it all in front of you, with witty remarks and trying to make everyone have a good time. Food is salty but tastes good, and the service is very attentive. On the not-so-good-side: Food is overpriced and the wait time for the chef to arrive at the table can be too much, even when the restaurant is virtually empty, so be prepared for that.

Is the “show” based on the individual chefs mood? Because we didn’t get one. At all. We came for my sons 16th birthday and left disappointed in the lack of engagement from the chef/cook. The food was good, no complaints there. But really, not even the loud tapping on the grill.
