Celebrated my husband’s 44th birthday there. Hostess sat us right by the pool next to the band on the boat. Atmosphere is great, transformed us to the islands with great tiki cocktails. Food was just mediocre. We ordered the pupu platter appetizer: short ribs were super thin (maybe 1/8th of an inch) 6 pieces total. The calamari was greasy, but the aioli was good, tangy and cuts the heaviness. The plantain chips were thin and drowning in its own sauce. The most tasty were the pork bites. For entree we had the seafood curry and the kalua pork. Seafood was cooked very well, not overcooked. There were shrimps, prawns, scallops and calamari. However the curry was so light and thin, you can barely taste it. If I didn’t know it was a curry, I would’ve thought it’s just a stir fry. The kalua pork was plentiful however it tasted more like pulled pork. There was a scoop of white rice and a scoop of Mac salad. Mac salad was under seasoned. Overall disappointing meal especially for a 4 or 5 start hotel. Cocktails were strong but delicious. Our waiter was very attentive. The part that made this experience great was the band. Excellent music, great voices and just s fun group.

This was on my list of iconic San Francisco places to visit and I finally got a chance to go. It is definitely a pricey endeavor for what you get, but it’s San Francisco and a tourist spot. They have a band playing on a floating platform in the pool and there’s is occasional man-made rain to give you the tropical vibes. The drinks were good and the food was good. This was fun, but definitely seemed outdated to me. Come check it out to see what you think of this blast from the place bar.

Five of us had a reservation and were seated promptly. We had great service throughout the meal and our food was quite good! Of course, the very best is the amazing decor (with rain!) and vibe of this historic restaurant. Three of us enjoyed the Kahlúa pork and one of us had a curry seafood dish that they enjoyed. A unique San Francisco experience that everyone should have at least once.

We almost didn’t get to experience the Tonga Room as I forgot to make reservations early. Luckily, we were able to get a table one night while we were in town. So, if you are thinking about going make sure and make your reservations as soon as you can. The drinks were top notch and the entertainment was so good. We stayed for all 3 sets as we celebrated our 11th anniversary. Highly recommend the Kalua Pork and the Seafood Coconut Curry. We had a wonderful time and memories that will last as a lifetime.

The Tonga Room is such a fun, unique, and classic San Francisco dining experience! Inside the Fairmont Hotel, the iconic tiki bar and restaurant has been entertaining guests since 1945. We started with the Tonga Pupu Platter, which was perfect for sharing, and then split the Seafood Coconut Curry that was rich and flavorful. The tropical décor, complete with a pool in the center, simulated rain and thunderstorm, and live music in a floating tiki bar, made the night even more memorable. Our waiter was entertaining, helpful, and our food came out so fast! It’s a must-visit when in San Francisco for both its history and atmosphere!

OK. Let’s be fair. We’ve been here twice before, and one of those times was a special occasion about 40 YEARS AGO! We had really fond memories, with hopes of recreating those on NYE 2026!
Bad idea. The crowd management was a hot mess and the very expensive buffet was largely on par with a mediocre all-you-can-eat dive in a strip mall somewhere. Cocktails and wine were extra, as was the additional fee every time the band played, which was every 40 minutes or so, and not especially well.
It was a really expensive evening. Expected that. Was hoping for better food, more attentive and friendly service, and … well… the night we remembered of yore.
Oh well. One for the books.

What an amazing atmosphere. Best indoor tiki bar ever. Service was impeccable. The drinks were super potent. Go for an off-the-menu Singapore Sling (Jimmy Buffett was right…IYKYK!) The seafood coconut curry was flavorful and spicy…add some steamed rice. The pork was juicy and full of flavor. Go take a walk back in Tiki time! Reservations highly encouraged.

Went to the Tonga Room for our Anniversary. The all Staff are very friendly from start to finish and fun to be around . The live Musicians were great and do play a variety of styles ranging from Country to R&B . We got up and danced ! The drinks are a bit too sweet and syrupy so I added more water to mine . The food was way too salty and sugary for my personal pallet .Even though we didn’t enjoy the food or drinks we thoroughly had a great time just based on the friendly service, ambiance and entertainment . We loved our time so much that we got some swag!

This was one of my favourite nights out on our California trip, in a large part thanks to my server David who made my birthday feel very special! He was so personable, attentive and thoughtful and you could tell he was a top notch waiter. We did the appetizer platter with an order of the spring rolls between two of us and found we were quite full after. Not too full to add the amazing banana split and a macaroni salad though. The cocktails were DELICIOUS and worth the money for the novelty. The band changes the types of songs throughout the night so we did dinner 7-9 but stayed on the dancefloor for one more drink after. We did make a reservation 2 weeks out since we expected it to be busy.
