As close as you get to perfect score. Samantha was awesome, food was delicious. In fact so delicious (patty melt onion rings)I probably took the worse food picture of all my reviews because I was inhaling my dish. 4.9 only because cole slaw was a tad too sweet.

This used to be one of my favorite breakfast and lunch spots but the last few times we have gone, the food has not been prepared well. I finally inquired if they had a new cook, sadly the answer was no. I’m not sure what has happened to this iconic family owned business, but I hesitate recommending it to anyone anymore.

This was our first visit here today. Our waitress was Danielle. She was not friendly and appeared to not want to be there today. We ordered a mushroom swiss burger and a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and onion rings. Once I placed our order, we were planning on ordering a dessert but Danielle took the menu from us so I asked about the desserts, thinking we could keep the menu so that way we could make a selection later, however she said that we either had to go up to the front to see what the selection was or she could bring us a list , which she did. Eventually, she brought back a sticky note of all of the desserts indicating ” they are pies” without specifying that you can purchase either by the slice.
When our order arrived , both burgers were tasteless, very greasy and the bread soggy. We tried adding Mayo, lettuce and tomatoes that was added to the side; however, that did not belp. When I reported that the food just was not good, she didn’t apologize and just asked if we wanted anything else, in which I declined and offered to pay for the fries considering that was the only thing that was good. At that point , her demeanor became even more unfriendly. Basically, after the burgers were removed from the menu the total bill came to almost $20 just for the fries and (2) Iced Tea’s.
This will be the last time that I ever come to this restaurant nor will I ever refer anyone. This was by far the worst customer service I have ever received. Danielle obviously is in the wrong line of business and either needs to be trained on customer satisfaction , how to handle negative feedback, and defusing the situation into a positive outcome.

**Update**
After coming here 2yrs ago (2019) I have to say that the food is still perfectly delicious, our waitress was amazing while dealing with our party of 12 aside from her other tables, and our experience was as good as it was before. They are very efficient in the kitchen getting all of our plates out at the same time and it is the best bang for our buck. If you haven’t been here you need to go! It might not seem like it from the outside but it is the best mom n pop place there is for a hardy breakfast without breaking your wallet.

Chicken Caesar wrap sat under a heat lamp. Tomatoes were so old they had sprouts. And the fries must have gotten cold because they were re dunked in oil and were soggy. Server was very pleasant but very slow. No check back or refill. Sorry for the negative review. Don’t like doing it.

Loved the Popi’s popular breaded chicken breast on top of biscuit but I have to the say the whole dish did not live up to the expectation and the hype! Decided to try this place after reading great google reviews but was disappointed. What’s with their home fries!? It was hard to chew, flavorless and too oily. Gravy felt like it was taken out of the refrigerator and poured on top of the dish. Oh my my and the price is totally crazy!

I ordered oatmeal it came out like warm, my ice tea glass had a crack in it so it leaked out. My husband had a sausage egg sandwich not so tasty. We never had any issues at Popi’s in Palmetto. A very disappointing breakfast.

I hate to leave this review but today was it for us. We have been going to Popi’s on 301 in Ellenton for 12 years. Used to go for Sunday breakfast weekly. Slowly over time and especially after the gentlemen owner wasn’t around anymore the food quality has gone down, down, down. Whether it is the chewy overdone hash browns, cold over cooked eggs, chicken so dry you can’t choke it down, pretty much every time we go now something is terrible. And for all this pleasure you receive poorly prepared food at a higher price. The service is always friendly but at this point it can’t make up for the food quality. Today was our last time going to Popi’s. I hope they can fix the problems with the food product they put out, but for now there are several better options for breakfast/lunch in our area.
