New China Buffet Chinese Restaurant in Mentor-On-The-Lake, OH
Reviews
Today, my spouse, our young daughter, and I finally had a chance to dine there. To our surprise, there were only two other customers in the entire restaurant, making a total of five people including us—perhaps because it was a Tuesday.
The worst part was the food. I walked around the buffet again and again and honestly couldn’t find anything to eat. It felt awkward to ask for a refund and say we weren’t eating because there was simply no food—but that was truly the case.
We arrived around 7:10 PM (the restaurant closes at 9:00 PM). The beef was so dry it felt like chewing on wood. The fish tray had only a few leftover scraps and was never refilled. The seafood (crawfish, shrimp, mussels) was overly salty and not fresh. The breaded fried chicken, French fries, and fried shrimp were all dried out and hard. There was no soup at all—especially the sour and spicy soup I usually enjoy. Even the rice and stir-fried noodles were dried out and overcooked, completely inedible.
In short, the food that day was not meant for us—we completely wasted our money.
Update 12/30/2025.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone and feel it should be closed. Even the dining room was gross and dirty looking.
How convenient for the restaurant: we’re asked to pay first, and then after they have our money, we are subjected to a form of torture to chase us out. The food was decent (could have been labeled better), and the staff was nice, but if an establishment is going to pull pranks like this on customers, particularly on a holiday, we’ll explore other options in the future.
This buffet is above average! Buffets are a hit or miss, and this is definitely a hit. Reasonably priced, hot food and lots to choose from!
I just loved the Baked crab, Coconut shrimp and sesame chicken.
Lots of dessert too, including cookies and ice cream. Chocolate chip cookies were just okay. You should come here for the food and not the dessert. Not saying the dessert is bad or anything.
The Chinese food is something else! So good, I just wanted to keep eating.
Oh! And they have sushi. I liked the sushi too.
I only wish I lived closer to eat here again.
The buffet has all the typical hot food and lots to choose from. There are many desserts too, but normally I don’t get those as I just get take out for lunch.
They also offer sushi, which wasn’t anything special, but definitely decent for being a buffet.
We had lunch here at $8.99 per person. Good value for your money !
Egg rolls, sesame chicken, teriyaki chicken, crab, rice, desserts, fruit, ice cream etc…
