Went for NYE 2025 at 6:00 p.m. Called ahead for reservations for 12 asking if they would have prime rib as had read they run out. The cook and bartender, Peter, offered to buy an extra to accomodate our party. How is that for over the top service?! We said no, as we didn’t know how many in our party would order it. When we placed our order they were completely sold out of prime rib. Disappointed but ordered everything else on the menu, chicken fried steak, salad, fried okra, smoked bisket sandwich, fried cat fish, chili. We had a good variety with 12 people. EVERYONE loved what they had! Delish! Our waitress, Cheri, kept us all well attended to with glasses filled with drinks, extra gooey, soft, warm biscuts, fullfilling our every request. Food came out fast. Oh, and enough food for many to take home! THANK YOU, TexAz Grill for the perfect NYE! Happy 2026!

Lived here all of my life and I’ve never seen this place. I don’t know how I missed it and I’m sorry I did. The brisket sandwich I had was really good, the service was great, and I can’t wait to go back again to try something else. Is was large, moist and tender. I also loved the atmosphere. It was very nostalgic, Texas oriented, and very patriotic feeling. See my pictures to see what I mean. I can’t wait to go again. Maybe tonight.

I haven’t stepped foot in Texaz Grill in almost 25 years—back when it was my go-to for work lunches and the world felt a little simpler. I finally made it back for their 40th Anniversary, and while the kitschy Texas roadhouse vibe is exactly as I remembered, the popularity has spiked. Pro tip: Get a reservation. We almost didn’t get in, which is a testament to how this place has endured.

The service remains top-notch, but I made a tactical error in my ordering. Since it was Friday, I tried to be a good Midwesterner and went for the Cod Fish Fry. I wanted to see how it stacked up against the gold standard of a Minnesota Friday night.

Mistake.

The fish was fine, but compared to the ‘fry anything for attention’ energy of the Minnesota State Fair, it felt like bringing a knife to a gunfight. My dinner guest was much smarter—they ordered the steak and decided to ‘Eat Real Food’ by following Secretary Kennedy’s new inverted food pyramid. Watching them dive into a massive pile of high-quality protein while I picked at my cod was my second ‘moron moment’ of the trip.

This place has served over a million Chicken Fried Steaks for a reason. If you’re coming here, don’t try to be healthy or nostalgic for a fish fry—honor the Texas roots and order the meat. Your cardiologist might disagree, but the new HHS guidelines are finally on your side.

We had a wonderful meal with outstanding service- our waitress was so incredibly kind and gave great recommendations (Cajun seasoning on the TexAZ potatoes was very yummy). We got the smoked prime rib and the fried catfish. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and delicious with the horseradish and Au Jus. The catfish were the biggest fillets I’ve ever seen (picture does not do them justice) and were so flaky and so good. Overall we had a lovely supper and left with full stomachs and happy hearts!

My fiancé and I were finally able to try this restaurant after years of driving by, and we were initially impressed. The atmosphere— kinda lik a Rustic Americana vibe—and the service were great; the staff were attentive and professional. Unfortunately, the culinary experience did not live up to the promise set by the front of house, leading to extreme disappointment.
I really wanted a great steak, so I ordered the NY Strip and my fiancé ordered the Ribeye. For a price point of $38 per steak, we were shocked by how thin the cuts were. We requested medium preparation, but both steaks arrived significantly overcooked, leaning toward medium-well or well-done.
Not only were they overcooked, but the steaks also seemed to be completely under-seasoned. My fiancé specifically noted that the Ribeye was oozing an excessive amount of butter, which unfortunately overpowered the natural flavor of the meat. The poor quality and execution simply did not justify the premium price.
Beyond the main courses, my two sides—a salad and mashed potatoes with gravy—were unremarkable. Worse, the biscuits were severely undercooked or baked. As Paul Hollywood say it was stodgy.
Overall, while the great service staff and unique environment deserve praise, the major failures in the kitchen, particularly concerning the quality and preparation of the steaks, made this a very poor experience. This was a major disappointment for a place I’ve been wanting to try for a minute. Bummer man.

Big Portions. Bold Flavor. True TEXAZ Style.
I finally made my first visit to TEXAZ Grill in Phoenix — just in time for their 40th anniversary celebration!

For this milestone, they’ve teamed up with local favorite Chef Rich Hinojosa (formerly of CRUjiente Tacos) to craft a special menu highlighting the best of both worlds – Texas classics with a local twist.

From the crispy Puffy Tacos to their legendary Chicken Fried Steak, every bite delivers that hearty, no-frills Texas comfort the Valley has loved for four decades. Where friendly faces meet a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

To celebrate the anniversary of this local dining institution, the community is invited to experience new menu creations or savor TEXAZ Grill favorites that have stood the test of time — all while enjoying great food, cold drink specials, and plenty of TEXAZ-style fun.

Whether it’s your first visit or one of many memorable meals, make sure to stop in and support local — because places like TEXAZ Grill are what keep Phoenix’s food scene bold, flavorful, and full of heart.

If you like Chicken Fried Steak with a Texas vibe this is your place. It’s been awhile since I had a Shiner Bock draft it topped of the meal.

We ordered the chicken fried chicken and grilled catfish lunches. The chicken patty was sizable and covered with the appropriate white pepper (not brown) gravy. It came with genuinely mashed potatoes and assorted veggies in a garlic butter sauce. The tender fish was paired with fried potatoes and soup. Overall, both dishes were filling. Lunch prices are fairly in line with other eateries these days. The ambiance here is Western country with Texas-themed memorabilia – road signs, beer ads, flags, license plates, taxidermy mounts, neon signs, etc. – adorning the walls. We appreciated Cherie, our server, who made sure we had what we needed and the manager, Chris, who took time to converse and help out. Forty years in business with some wait staff and a cook who’ve worked there two decades is testimony to the local devotion.

The food was okay. They boast of a chicken fried steak that is supposed to be the best. It was okay but I’ve had better. Service was very slow they ran out of unsweet tea. Overall it was OK but I would rate the food at a 4 service at a 2 and atmosphere was pretty good

I got the chicken skewers. They had a lot of flavor. The service was great from Cherie. She was attentive the entire time. I also enjoyed the margarita. Huge portions and the margarita was strong.
