Our experience at Los Magueyes was mixed but not terrible. The food overall was okay decent quality, but not especially authentic compared to other Mexican restaurants we’ve tried. Nothing was bad, just not particularly memorable.
One standout was the salsa. It was very good and tasted fresh and homemade, which we appreciated and enjoyed quite a bit.
Service, however, was on the slower side, even though the restaurant didn’t appear overly busy at the time. It wasn’t awful, just noticeably slower than expected.
The biggest letdown was the margarita situation. The menu listed two margaritas one labeled “regular” and another with no description at all. When we asked for clarification, specifically looking for a skinny margarita that wasn’t premixed, the response felt evasive and unclear. It seemed like they became uncomfortable once we asked detailed questions, which raised concerns. Because of the uncertainty and lack of transparency, we chose not to order one. It had a bit of a bait-and-switch feel, and honestly, a clearly labeled skinny margarita option should just be on the menu.
That said, the food itself was good enough that we would consider giving Los Magueyes another try, hopefully with improved service and clearer drink options next time.
Overall: decent food, great salsa, slow service, and a missed opportunity on drink transparency.

So good!!! Authentic Mexican food! This is our second time here and I would definitely recommend! We were immediately greeted and sat at a table. Our server was very attentive and we immediately received chips and salsa. We ordered 2 margaritas on the rocks and also enjoyed their wonderful queso. We tried the chimichangas and the taco salad and loved everything!
*Regarding a negative review I noticed that was also recently posted regarding no chips, we were immediately given chips and salsa as we sat down before ordering and the menu pictured in that review is not the menu for this restaurant, so I think that may be for a different restaurant.

What a wonderful meal. You know it’s going to be good when you are immediately referred to as an amigo. Very busy restaurant which means fresh food. Big portions and very fair prices. The entire staff was wonderful. Delicious margaritas. My mother got the peach and I the lime. She got the medium size which really is huge. See photo. The food was fantastic and they got it out fast even though the restaurant was full. My rib eye was cooked perfectly. They give you a huge bowl of chips and salsa. My father loves his fajitas. The flan was fantastic and I’m a flan snob. Our waiter was so kind. Can’t wait to come back.

I have had a few friends tell me to try Los Magueyes because they like it. We’ll the food is ok not great, and the inside is tired looking. The prices are good and the beer is cheap, so there prices won’t break the bank. We will give them another try in the near future and will update this post. Also people that go there also need to learn how to park, we saw 4 vehicles that were parked dead center of the White parking Strip’s taking up 2 spots at a time, I guess they must have thought no one could ding their doors that way.

3rd & last time we will dine here. First time food & service was good, 2nd time we walked out after we tired of waiting for someone to seat us. This eve we were seated promptly but then had to flag someone down just to get chips & salsa. Had been waiting long enough that we knew what we wanted when our drink order was taken but it still took forever to get our food which was warm but not hot. Note to management – you need to light a fire under your wait staff. Never seen such a lack of hustle at a Mexican joint. Visit El Mezcal or El Cerrito to see how it’s done properly.

I’ve been a frequent patron of this restaurant for about three years now. The food is good. The service has always been less than average, so I expect to wait a little. But today was the icing on the cake for me. I was seated and they were slow. The guy who seated me immediately fulfilled my drink order and that was it. Just a few other tables occupied and I waited and I waited and I waited some more for my order to be taken. After over twenty minutes of watching this staff ignore that I’m waiting, I got up and made my way to the register and paid for my drink. Explained why I was leaving. I shouldn’t have had to explain this. Horrible experience and they don’t care. I’ve given these people plenty of business, have always been polite and tipped well. They will never see any more business from me. Furthermore, I will no longer promote their business as I’ve done in the past. It’s really unfortunate, because their food is better than most other Mexican spots around town. However, I cannot emphasize enough how incredibly lousy their service and attention is, especially when they’re slow and there is no excuse. I would give them -5 stars if I could. If you don’t mind lousy service, this may be your place to dine. But if you’re like me and believe that customer service goes hand in hand with quality of food, then skip this place and go to Taco Bell. You’ll have a better experience.

We chose to sit at the bar as we wanted margaritas with our meal. For a large Mexican place, they have a small selection of margaritas. They were marginal at best. The food was very good, but did take a while as they were busy. Our server was friendly. I wish they had a better selection of tacos as I’m like a wide range of tacos. I had tacos. Wife had enchiladas. Both entrees were very tasty

This place is not my favorite place BUT there are reasons why you should try it. First of all, the Mexican food isn’t the style I am accustomed to and for that reason I can’t say it’s awful and don’t go here. Some of you may like sloppy Joe style sauce, and chicken tamales with enchilada sauce and ground beef on top, but that’s not my style.
I came here craving white cheese enchiladas and shredded beef tamales, and that’s what I ordered, not what I was served until I complained.
However, the VALUE for the money is extraordinary! Look at all the food that came with my $7.00 number 3 lunch special!!! Also, chips are free here, even second servings of chips.
So if you have a huge appetite and a smaller budget this might just be the perfect place for you!

My favorite Mexican restaurant in new port Richey! Friendly staff, a great amount of space, delicious food, and hefty portions! Great for lunch or dinner with colleagues, friends, and family. I’ve never been disappointed when coming here.

Yum!! Fresh chips and tasty salsa hit the table 10 seconds after we did! My husband raved about the Pork dinner & all the goodies that came with it. My tosta-guacs were super yummy too! Tasty, affordable and GREAT service. Our new spot for Mexican eats for sure!
