Found this little gem when searching for place to eat not too close to Liberty U. Great location next to train tracks and James River.
Atmosphere was fantastic – old train depot furnished with church pews, vintage quilts and signs. A model wooden train engine adorns a wall. Beautiful turn of the century bar as you enter.
We both order blackened chicken Philly and they did not disappoint.
Since we were on a road trip north, didn’t test any beer but you can be sure we will be back to do that.

I came here cold, tired, and wasting away from hunger and I was embraced by the warm, sweet goodness of chicken tenders and Belgian waffles. Seriously, Jesus would eat these waffles. They’re perfectly crispy and ever so slightly sweet. Besides the chicken and waffles, they have an extensive menu of options which I can only assume are just as excellent. They also have a selection of delicious iced sweet teas and free refills! Of course I rounded out my meal with their chocolate flourless cake with raspberry sauce and oh. My. Gosh. Let me tell you, I used to eat this cake as a child and it was PERFECT. It’s incredibly rich and dense so I don’t recommend getting it after putting away nearly a whole plate of chicken and waffles but luckily I had some family to help me. Along with the food, I was incredibly impressed with the service. Our servers Amari and Evie were nothing but friendly, helpful, pleasant and efficient. Their service complety elevated my experience. Overall, I left very satisfied (especially my stomach) and will definitely recommend! 11/10 stars.
P. S. Picture included is my meal after I ate half of it (I couldn’t wait)
EDIT: I’m coming back a couple hours later and I have to reiterate how GOOD these waffles are. Truly, even after sitting in a takeout box all afternoon and eating it cold, they’re still crispy, still airy, still incredible

Visiting from out of town. Family suggested the Depot Grille. Glad they did. I had the shaved steak with cheese, onion and BBQ sauce. It was very tasty. Food came out hot. One of my pet peeves. Service was right on and prices were fair. We will return next time we are in town.

First time going here. My food was great and our waiter was amazing. I got the Chicken Chesapeake with slaw and fries. The chicken was juicy and loves the crab dip on top. I ended up scraping the dip off and eating it with my french fries. The slaw was white slaw and you could tell it was homemade. It was crunchy, tasty and fresh. The ranch was very good for the house salad as was the caesar salad. Looking at the other tables around us, everything looked great. The fried oysters, loaded cheese fries, and the philly cheese steak quesadilla looked so good. I will be back to try them and some of the other interesting menu options. We went here because of the recommendations of other who all loved their meal. Check them out

I think the cooks are afraid of seasoning. Nothing had flavor, if you wanted flavor you find it in a sauce. Wife’s order was wrong but they fixed it. We had the oysters, wings, salmon and burger. A little seasoning goes a long way.

Amazing service from start to finish. Arrived at 6:30 on a busy Friday evening and our group of 7 was wowed by the service, atmosphere and food! So glad we chose Depot Grille for one of our 2 evenings in Lynchburg.

we visited the Depot Grille over Labor Day weekend 2025, on our way home to break up the long drive. The fajita roll up and the French dip with added toppings were really good. The staff was friendly and the vibe was fun. Everyone from kids to elderly folks seemed to be enjoying themselves. We walked to the river island afterward, and on the way back I took this picture to show that the kitchen of this restaurant appears to be in some old railroad cars!

Loved the atmosphere and service was great. There was also little wait. The food, however was about hospital quality. Entrees were OK, sides were barely steamed with no seasoning in sight. Couldn’t even eat them. Not something I’m looking for at a 25-35 dollars a plate.
