we came here for a meal for my friends birthday, and had the worst experience. we arrived at 10:30 as a party of 4. 2/4 of us received our food soon after ordering, but recieved the wrong burger and extremely freezing cold burgers and fries. we stood at the counter to ask for our food to be warmed up, no one glanced our way for 30 minutes. we eventually gave up, and just let out food sit there because it was not up to par. an hour later, and they still haven’t fixed our order and the other 2/4 in my party still haven’t even gotten their food. there started to be more people standing at the counter asking where there food was, because it had been hours. the person at the front said the manager and everyone else had quit, and the only people in the back were new people and were “messing everything up”. a lady that wasn’t in steak n shake uniform walked into the store and started helping with orders, assuming its his wife he had just called in to help. the store was now closed and we are still waiting for all of our parties food. he gives us a new cheese fries that are still frozen cold and have the least amount of cheese sauce ever. I would’ve got more if I had ordered it on the side!! He said he “could” make our burgers over again but we’d have to wait at least 30 minutes and it was already past close, so we decided to leave. By the time we left, my 2 friends still hadn’t received their food. None of us got refunds, we had 4 receipts total. I love steak and shake but this was entirely disappointing…

I am not a person to leave reviews, but I absolutely had to after my visit today at this location. It was just after noon there were maybe five groups of people inside the restaurant there was only two people working so we knew that we would need to have patience we couldn’t order milkshakes at all which sucked that’s the only reason my friend and I brought our kids there but we ordered lunch anyway it wasn’t that big of a deal however, 40 minutes after ordering my friend still did not have her meal which was two burgers and an order of chicken . Our kids were starting to get really upset so she waited up at the counter and was completely ignored. I then went up to the counter on her behalf and just politely asked you know excuse me do we know how much longer this is gonna be and the manager wearing glasses and had black curly hair started yelling at me and giving me attitude immediately. I was not the first customer she had been rude to and the rest of the restaurant started to get increasingly upset with the service and her attitude.. One customer asked for her name because she wanted to call corporate and complain. The lady refused to give it to her and they got into an altercation just yell yelling at each other the manager then called the police. Halfway through my burger, I found a hair in my meal, matching the black, curly haired manager. I took the children to the bathroom and when I came out, the police had told us that we needed to leave and everybody who did not get their food would get refunds.. They close the location for the day. The behavior of the manager was absolutely unacceptable when the customers were trying to be accommodating and understanding, but also 40 minutes for two thin burgers and one order of chicken tenders was absolutely crazy so I just wanted an update on how much longer it was going to be. This woman’s attitude lacked professional, professionalism and kindness, and a stressful situation, and I would never step foot into this restaurant again how disappointting

Employees make it look like it’s so hard to work there, like if they were working for “free” (rude). I always said thank you, was kind, they just throw the food at you with bad attitude, slam the window on your face. Never learned to say “you’re welcome” and can’t take seperate orders through drive thru when there’s no cars in the drive thru????? Okay I understand it’s “too hard for them” but say it nicely, the attitude killed it. Just ridiculous. Especially the girl with the long black ponytail wig. She had the WORST attitude for no reason. I was sooo nice to them. I understand customer service because I worked many years, but it gives you no right to be that ignorant.

Came here after a long day of shopping at the Fox Valley Mall nearby. Immediately upon arrival I noticed that the establishment wasn’t very clean. There were only 2 workers present working both the kitchen and the drive thru. It’s obvious corporate doesn’t care about this location at all. We waited about 20 minutes for our food, which is fine as I don’t usually mind waiting. The shakes my friend and I ordered did not come with our food and we had to wait an additional 20 minutes to get our shake. On top of that, I ordered a burger with bacon that I paid extra for and I never got the bacon with my burger.

I placed an order online and they sent the wrong food and beverages. I paid about $50 for my order, probably got $30 worth of food that I don’t like and milkshakes that I didn’t order. I contacted the driver and he said that’s the order he was given at the restaurant, and to contact them directly. I call their number and nobody picks up the phone. So, I end up with cold food I did not order and I don’t like. First and last time I place an order at this place. We go there all the time and we notice the people working there aren’t really nice or welcoming but we don’t pay much attention as we always have gotten our orders just fine, but this is totally unacceptable. We keep going back especially because this was the first place my husband and I had dinner when we first met (not a date, long story, but it’s, well, it was until today, a special place for us). Their phone has been ringing for over 10 min, I’m still waiting for anyone to pick up. Horrible customer service, don’t go there unless you are mentally prepared to be disappointed.

The burgers are tasty and the milkshakes are amazing. The fries cooked in beef tallow reminded me of how awesome the McDonald’s fries used to be. There is also a kids menu. The self service ordering was very convenient.

I pulled up to drive thru at 9:52pm. I sat there for 2 minutes and asked if I could place and order an the manager said welcome to steak an shake how may I help you I said hello how are you she said fine and asked me how I was I said great happy I made it before the restaurant closes at 10:00pm. She then said what can I get in proceeded to order 2 # 2 and she just came off with a terrible attitude she started saying over the microphone this my last order which made me feel like I needed to then go inside to watch my food being made.
So I asked her if I need to come in she said no
You don’t but I went in anyways her saying no made me want too.
When I walked in I asked her how I can order because whomever in drive thru isn’t happy and I want to place order she then started saying use kiosk I said I have cash she said well you go be watching your food from outside be made.
Very rude she also didn’t try to accommodate me by taking my order a cash a using the drive thru register or wherever she could due to kiosk only being card only.
She instead wasted my time didn’t take my order argue with me a pointing at me saying you shouldnve got out of drive thru we are closed now and the. The cook kicked me out I asked for store number he said he didn’t have an idea of what the store number is.
My ? Is why work in a restaurant where I’m sure at her interview she said she was customer friendly why act like your mad you 1 work at steak an shake an 2 about to close an I walked in right before you close.
She also had a family sitting down eating at 10:00 they were not put out.
Her employee with braids in her hair said the woman arguing with me is the manager which left me with no one else to speak to
No one cared
I was treated unfairly and disrespected by the restaurant manager on the evening shift December 21, 2025.
I have never in my life been treated this way and I would think all steak an shakes are the same across board but this one is privately owned clearly because she acted as if she was purposely not taking my order an want to argue why are you on the clock treating customers that way: I mean you get paid based on customers like me walking in to spend money on food.

Suppose to be serving customer but instead being combative nasty attitude. I mean she was one of the rudest people I’ve ever encounter out here an I’m trying to figure out how she is managing this place because if she as a manager treats customers bad I wonder how her employees treat customers. The cook literally look up at his monitor an said well it 10:00 you can leave now.

Yelled at and talked to any type of way couldn’t even get myself an my child dinner due to the time I chose togo to restaurant and employees including manager upset they clearly working.
I am unsure if there is another steak a shake near by as this one is closest to me an ot sucks to not ever be able to come because of the poor customer service!
I need to know if this was out of desperation that they have a person of such caliber running this restaurant treating customers super file she is bogus and karma is real! I leave it up to God he will deal with her accordingly

Yesterday 07/01/24 – Waited outside for 20+ mins (with no one in line in front or behind me – no other customers) for them to tell me that the shake machine was broken and they’d be right out. They finally brought my 4 Kid’s Shakes.. only halfway filled! $20 later and completely unsatisfied. Was not about to go back in after the extensively ridiculous wait. Not to mention there was no whipped cream, which they always serve atop their shakes.
Major disappointment for my kiddos (and my wallet). No wonder this place is never busy. It’s a ‘SHAKE’ spot.. it’s literally written in the restaurant name. Will not be returning.
