Thinking Cup is the kind of narrow, buzzing Newbury Street café that pulls you in with espresso and keeps you there with the pastry case.
I ordered the mini Boston cream pie and a lemon poppy seed scone. The Boston cream pie was exactly what it should be: soft sponge, thick vanilla custard, and a smooth layer of chocolate ganache that felt indulgent but not overdone. The lemon poppy seed scone had a bright citrus note with just enough glaze to add sweetness without masking the lemon. Tender inside, slightly crumbly at the edges.
The espresso was smooth and balanced, perfect alongside something sweet. We grabbed a small outdoor table and watched Back Bay drift by.
A reliable stop for coffee and a classic Boston treat while strolling Newbury.

Love this location! Fun store front with window seating and a lot of outdoor seating.
Lots of pastry options, and healthy breakfast items too. Yogurt parfait was great and yummy as was the blueberry pastry. Coffee was great! Not bitter but smooth and freshly brewed. An excellent coffee shop to hang out and ease into your day.

The food was great. I got the roast chicken sandwich on multigrain and very much enjoyed it. It came out quickly (especially for being a busy lunch hour time) and was a nice place to rest and recharge (me and my phone!) after getting soaked in the rain all day 🙂 The interior is atmospheric and comfortable. The front can feel a bit squeezed for space but there’s a lovely spacious back dining room as well.

The cafe is beautiful and genuinely transports you into like a romantic Italian speakeasy cafe. But this is not a place for studying, they do not have WiFi so you would have to use a personal hotspot of some sort. The coffee could stronger for me but I got their hot pumpkin spiced cappuccino maybe I wound change my mind by trying the latte. Though cappuccinos are usually stronger. It is more milk than espresso for my preferences.

Had a delicious flat white and lemon poppyseed scone. Great place to sit and sip while reading a book or doing some work. Atmosphere was warm, cozy, and casual. Will definitely be back the next time I’m on Newbury Street. If you’re looking for a coffee shop in Back Bay or cafe near Public Garden, look no further than Thinking Cup!

This is a nice cafe with plenty of seating. Moderately clean facilities. Reasonably priced. Card payments are accepted. Nice staff. Public restroom. You order at the counter then they call your name to pick up your order. Give this place a try if you’re in the area. We will definitely be going back.

Came here because didn’t want to go to a bar after dinner and had to be at a concert at 9pm. Ordered *French* hot chocolate, and I’m not French (obviously) but I know this is not what they should call that I mean I didn’t expect authentic French hot chocolate in the heart of Boston, but I did expect something that tasted like chocolate. On hindsight it’s my bad, should’ve just gotten tea, much easier to be decent as it’s just water and tea (bag). That said, come here for the vibes, if you want somewhere to chill, but don’t order the hot chocolate. Order wisely

Thinking Cup is simply the best coffee spot in Boston. The atmosphere is incredibly cozy — love the tables with historic newspaper clippings, such a unique touch. They serve Stumptown coffee and every cup is perfectly crafted. My latte was smooth and rich, no bitterness whatsoever.
The pastries are fresh and delicious — the Nutella croissant alone is worth the trip. Staff are friendly and welcoming even during the busy hours, which says a lot.
Right by Boston Common, it’s the perfect place to recharge while exploring the city. If you’re in Boston and you love great coffee and good vibes, Thinking Cup is a non-negotiable stop. Highly recommend! ☕

Good oatmeal (a little watery for me) still would both eat it and go back again tomorrow for more. Solid coffee. Plenty of seats, good service.
Part of the place feels like a random bolted on room – bonus though at 7am it is quiet.
$15 for oatmeal and coffee. Ouch and it feels the new normal now.
