A must-visit in the area!
I travel often and dine out frequently, so I tend to look for local restaurants that offer something distinctive rather than chain experiences. The Cedars Floating Restaurant is exactly that — a place that reflects the character of Coeur d’Alene.
Location & Access
The restaurant sits directly on the Spokane River near Post Falls Dam. Parking is straightforward, but once you arrive you’ll walk across a fairly long dock/bridge to reach the restaurant, which is literally floating on the water. When water is released from the dam, the entire structure rises and falls with the river level, which is a pretty unique feature.
Ambiance – 5 stars for this category
Inside, the design leans into a warm Northwest lodge style with natural wood tones and large windows overlooking the river. The setting is scenic and relaxed rather than overly formal. There’s also a covered outdoor patio.
Menu & Food
The menu is a well-balanced surf-and-turf lineup—steaks, seafood, and regional specialties. The cedar plank salmon is a signature dish and something I’ll try next time. One feature that stands out is the salad bar, which is well stocked and offered as an option with an entrée.
My meal arrived perfectly cooked and at the right temperature, something I personally care about. I took pictures of the prime rib, the crème brûlée, and the bread (delicious and warm, by the way), but didn’t photograph the shrimp with mango because we ate it immediately.
Wine & Drinks
The wines are on display as you enter. The wine list leans toward Washington State wines, with familiar additions like Decoy, J. Lohr, and Powers, which pair well with most of the menu. I didn’t notice any ports.
Service – 5 stars
Service was friendly, attentive, and well paced without being intrusive, allowing the meal to feel relaxed rather than rushed.
Things to Know Before You Go
• The restaurant is primarily open for dinner (no breakfast or lunch), and hours can vary seasonally.
• Reservations are recommended.
• You will need to walk across the dock to access the floating restaurant, which may be a consideration for some guests.
• Pets are not allowed.
• Dress is generally casual to smart casual.
Bottom line:
This is a memorable stop in the Coeur d’Alene area, and I definitely recommend it.

The place is nice and not noisy. We ordered the 12 oz New York Steaks, one with garlic mashed potatoes and one with baked potato.
The steaks were tender and cooked as ordered. Good flavor. The service was great, very attentive, but not annoying. Was seated quickly and water glasses were filled promptly. Was able to browse the menu and order was taken quickly. The price is a little spendy, but it was a special occasion and it was worth it.
I would definitely come back.

We got an amazing dinner and cocktails overlooking the sunset . Staff was attentive and nice. If I had any suggestions for the business, it would be to upgrade their restrooms, so they can match the great venue and experience.

We tried the crab cakes, calamari, coconut prawns, and flatbreads. While the food was decent, it didn’t quite stand out. The view, however, was stunning, and the service was attentive and friendly. They have heated outdoor seating area which makes the experience even better.

Great food and atmosphere. The gentle rocking motion just added to the experience. The food was really good. They have a nice salad bar or a soup option for your meal. Danny, our waiter, was a wonderful source of information on the dishes and was very attentive without being overburdening.

Yes there’s an early bird meal option but the full menu was available. The pace of the meal was just about perfect for us, we didn’t feel rushed or feel like we were waiting a long time between courses.

The steaks look great, the seafood was wonderful and dessert is decadent.

I do recommend planning on spending 1-2 hours for the dining experience.

Finally, I STRONGLY recommend a reservation to avoid waiting, as the restaurant does seem to get really busy as the day goes on. There’s more I could say but go for yourself and enjoy.

Wow wow, we went there yesterday night to finish off our vacation and let’s just say it was outstanding. Service was phenomenal. We ordered the calamari as a starter which was delicious. The salad bar was outstanding. As main we got the salmon which was delightful, the scallops which were delicious and the Halibut which was my favorite personally. As dessert we got the creme brulee. Everything was outstanding and the views are breathtaking. And the drinks are delicious as well. The only thing I can say is all the food was warm and not piping hot. I am someone who likes her food hot and all the plates we ordered were not hot they were warm. But aside from that, we will hopefully be back when we come back our next vacation.

We went to this wonderful restaurant on 1-26-26. Had a 330pm reservation (opening) and were promptly seated. Started with the crab cake appetizer which was delicious. The wife had a perfectly cooked NY strip with mashed potatoes and vegetables. I had a perfectly cooked ribeye with loaded baked potato and vegetables. We both choose the incredible house made clam chowder. The service was outstanding from all the staff. Thank you for a wonderful dinner experience. We will definitely be coming back. We can’t wait to hear from the young couple we got the gift card for on how their dinner with out the kids went.

On the pricey side.. but you know that considering the location. The clam chowder was fresh and perfectly balanced. The prime rib was perfectly tender and seasoned. Was happily surprised that even though it was restaurant week, the food was not rushed and high quality. I will definitely go back there happily.
