My experience at J. Alexander’s was overwhelmingly positive, especially when it came to the food. We ordered the smoked salmon dip, the Mexico City spinach queso, the Maui steak, the filet mignon, and the Very Best Chocolate Cake. Every dish was exceptional. The salmon dip, which I initially hesitated to try, ended up being the standout—rich, flavorful, and surprisingly addicting. The tortilla chips were served hot and perfectly crisp. Both steaks were cooked to an ideal temperature and required almost no additional seasoning. The quality and execution genuinely tasted homemade, and I have absolutely no complaints about the food.
The interior of the restaurant is warm and inviting, with dim lighting and a beautiful barn-style ceiling that creates a comfortable atmosphere. However, a few aspects of the service and environment fell short. Our server was polite but not very attentive; we did not receive silverware until we asked, and each time she dropped something off, she hurried away before we had the chance to request anything else. It also seemed that larger tables received more of her attention, as she spent noticeably more time interacting with them.
Additionally, the windows in the dining area appear to have a draft coming through the lower seals. You can feel cold air coming in when placing a hand near them, which made the seating area slightly chilly throughout the meal. Addressing this would significantly improve the comfort of the space.
Overall, J. Alexander’s delivers outstanding food and a memorable dining experience. With a bit more attentiveness from the service staff and some maintenance to the seating area, it would easily be a five-star visit.

Sonshine took me here to celebrate my birthday. Food was delicious. Ordered crab cake, shrimp, Mexican spinach dip, pecan-crusted trout, mac-n-cheese, salad and steak. Sonshine first tried Maui steak and felt it was too sweet, sent it back and got ribeye. Staff did a great job.

The carrot cake was deliciously sweet. The deviled eggs were good. The pecan encrusted trout was AMAZING. The baby back ribs were just ok but the sauce was really good.
Excellent service!

Love J.Alexander’s Restaurant!
Great selection of steaks, salads, desserts and exceptional specialty cocktails.
We’ve been here a couple times, The service is top notch and there is a great atmosphere to enjoy. I like that even though the servers are all over it, the manager comes by to check on the table to make sure that you are enjoying your dining experience.
It is a high end establishment and priced accordingly, but in my opinion, worth every penny and then some!
Highly Recommend! Keep up the good work J,Alexander Team!

The service was on point! Our server recommended the trout and carrot cake, and they were both a hit. The ambiance was lovely as well!

I have lived in Livonia for 30 years. JA has been a classic, classy restaurant my family and I have frequented and its cuisine has and continues to be top tier. However… the last 3 months, as someone who lives and works in Livonia, I have noticed not only a decline in clientele but a poor decline in management, staff, service outside of the kitchen. I have witnessed seating favoritism. Listening to hostesses ask for phone numbers from those that they plan to make wait an hour or more to be seated. And ask for names from those they plan to seat sooner. I have witnessed hostesses greet those preferred by name versus prompt those not preferred by number. I have witnessed a poor decline in table service and a high increase in clearing tables. What you should know is customers are paying attention. I have witnessed 5 people clearing a table for the next party while an existing table goes unattended for an entire meal and could have ordered 2-3 more drinks or needed something as simple as another glass of water or wine.

The most consistent prime rib you will find anywhere, they have three separate ovens depending on how you want it cooked. Terrific atmosphere of white tablecloths mahogany and leather booths. Every single thing on the menu is sensational. You’re not going to find a better place for the money.

My daughter and her girlfriend put applications in for this restaurant. The family and I decided to go up eat and check it out. Have not been in years, Not expecting to see as many new faces there which was nice. After seeing how our server was treating the gal she happened to be training, we quickly had to leave after our meal. Very disappointing!

Not the review you think it’s going to be!My girlfriend and I had dinner there this past Saturday. 7 o’clock reservation and we checked in on time, however by the time 8 o’clock rolled around, we still had not been seated and had saw others come in and be seated while we waited. I checked in with the hostess to see how much longer we would be waiting and explain that we have been waiting an hour past our reservation time. She looked at my name and said that I got lost in the queue. She added my name to the queue immediately, but there had already been five other people waiting in front of us. Nonetheless, they set us within 15 minutes, and I did ask to speak to the manager, Bryce. I explained what happened and that the hostess was even a little snippy with me. Not only did he address the situation with the hostess, but he comped our meal sent us free appetizers and while we were waiting, we had been talking to a couple of women that have also been waiting for a table and they happen to be sat near us And he noticed we have been talking so he even sent them free appetizers. They also gave us a complementary dessert of their delicious carrot cake! The food was great, our server was great, and Bryce went above and beyond to make sure his customers were satisfied with their experience there. We will be returning because of Bryce being so kind and accommodating, and of course, as always, the food is amazing. Great job, Bryce! You are an amazing manager, and we felt more than taken care of for the incident. Lovely evening!

We visited J Alexanders at 630 on a Wednesday night and made reservations about 4 days prior. The dining experience was exceptional! We were seated right on time and our waitress was very helpful and quick. I always get the steak Maui which is a phenomenal ribeye with a sweet glaze that is impossible to beat!
