I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a new experience with fantastic food. My favourite was definitely the steak wagyu dish, it was probably one of the best courses I’ve ever tasted.
We got the tasting menu. I went there famished and I left stuffed. In total I believe we were in the restaurant for about 3 hours.
The experience sitting counterside and watching the chefs prepare the dishes was like getting dinner and a show. If you’re like me and you have an interest in kitchen craft from a childhood watching Food Network then I recommend this option.
The service was impeccable. Staff are attentive, knowledgeable and conversational without being overbearing.
Weeks later, I am still thinking about this wonderful meal.
Alo is one of those rare restaurants where absolutely everything — from the first greeting to the final bite — feels intentional, precise, and quietly extraordinary. Toronto has no shortage of ambitious tasting-menu restaurants, but Alo sits in a class of its own. The execution is flawless, the flavors are balanced yet surprising, and every plate feels like it was composed by people who care about perfection without ever drifting into pretension.
The tasting menu flows beautifully: thoughtful transitions, impeccable pacing, and dishes that manage to be both technically impressive and genuinely delicious. There’s no “one dish” that steals the show because the entire experience is the show — elevated but warm, sophisticated but deeply satisfying. Even the smallest elements (a broth, a garnish, a sauce) are dialed in with a level of finesse you rarely see.
Service is world-class: gracious, polished, attentive without hovering. The kind of hospitality that anticipates needs rather than reacts to them. The team operates with the smoothness of a well-rehearsed ensemble, and yet the energy is relaxed, never stiff.
The room itself feels quietly luxurious — intimate, atmospheric, and perfectly suited to the multi-course format. It sets the stage rather than competing with the food.
Alo absolutely earns its Michelin star, and honestly, it’s easy to imagine it holding more. It’s a restaurant that makes you feel lucky to be there.

Food was immaculate. An eye opening experience. I cannot even describe the food/art that I have eaten. Nothing disappointed me. They used the best of the best ingredients. Every dish was perfectly curated and every bite was orgasmic. If I was a multi millionaire, I would come here everyday. All the food was at the right temperature, nothing got stuck to our teeth, and I would say the egg & toast dish was one very memorable.
Now as for the atmosphere, the decor was elegant but the restaurant isn’t very big, thus the difficulty of getting a reservation. It was comfy and treated us extremely well.
Overall I recommend it for special occasions, not for a huge party but great for 4 people family or with your significant other. I will be coming back for sure one day.
The open-kitchen view added an extra layer of enjoyment, letting me watch the team work as they delivered dinner service.
Food was great as expected…. can’t argue with that.
However, the service was really poor. I had tasting menu with wine pairing and I was already paying more than $1k for two of us. I’m not complaining about that, of course. What made me very uncomfortable was that our waiter was very pushy to “upgrade” some of our menus. I agree to go for an “upgraded” truffle pasta but politely declined the wagyu option. However, he kept pushing us to the point we were very uncomfortable. At one point I even had to say that we are Asians and Im not interested to experience Wagyu. Even with the wine, he came with a cart and asked us to purchase a champagne. Remind you, we were having wine paired already. I declined but he kept pushing us… eventually we didnt go for the champagne but he was abviously not happy that we were only upgrading one menu option and became very cold that we felt very awkward throughout the dining experience. When you go to a micheline starred restaurant, you not only go for the food but also for the whole experience, like atmosphere and the service. Ive been to different michelin starred restaurants in the different parts of the world but I never had experience this type of service. I understand that you can ask once, but if the customer declines, then you should take a “no” for an answer and just drop the topic.. I felt like I was dealing with a service rep that trying to sell their product, not our waiter in a pronouned restaurant. Throughout the night, our interaction with him was very awkward after that and we couldnt really enjoy our time… if you want to throw away $1k and want to feel like you did something wrong, this is the place.
Maybe it was just our waiter but I certainly do not want to risk it going back.
We’ve chosen this restaurant for our anniversary celebration, and it was a cool idea. The set was awesome: interesting and classic tastes combinations, good serving – everything made your dinner as a journey.
There are options to upgrade couple of servings with black caviar and black truffle, and I highly recommend you to use this options to enhance your experience.
There are counter seats (from there you can see how kitchen works) and table seats – more classic dining experience.
Staff is polite, but not all of them have sparkle, only couple of people made your dinner exceptional.
High points: Canapes and hors d’oeuvres were a joy. Every bite was expressive and delicate. Loved the dungeness crab on toast. This dish melted in your mouth. The gingerbread macaron was an unexpected winner. And I usually hate macarons.
Low points: Chanterelles tasted like playdough. Beurre d’Isigny had good texture but was quite tasteless and felt like it didn’t pair well with bread. Lamb wasn’t trimmed as well as I had hoped. Peanut butter cup was unpleasant.
If you are after the dining from the Michelin guide i highly recommend trying to secure a seat in the dining room instead of the bar.
The staff were very professional and the setting extremely clean. Would appreciate if the management would consider a soap with less perfume. It is very strong and may disrupt one’s dining experience. Thank you to the management for a wonderful evening and I hope to try the dining room next time.
