Reviews
Finding a seat wasn’t difficult, and the waitresses and staff treated us well. I decided to try the Southwest Salad with pieces of fajita steak, and it was delightful. I’m surprised I finished the whole dish with how scrumptious the chips and salsa were, too.
I’d happily come back for how many appealing dishes there are, not to mention I love the area, and I’d happily recommend E Bar to anyone after Tex-Mex in Old East Dallas/Lower Greenville.
That’s why what happened on our most recent visit was so shocking.
It was the end of the night, the bar was nearly empty, and we were simply sitting together finishing our drinks. I was rubbing my boyfriend’s back—something small, affectionate, and entirely normal for any couple. We weren’t being loud, disruptive, or inappropriate in any way.
Out of nowhere, the general manager “Matt” approached us in an aggressive and confrontational manner. He (“GM Matt”) accused me of “groping” my boyfriend, a claim that was not only untrue but completely disconnected from what was actually happening. Before we could even process what he was saying, he demanded that we leave.
The situation escalated when the general manager put his hands on my boyfriend while forcing us out. There was no justification for physical contact of any kind. The hostility and intensity of his behavior felt targeted, and the entire interaction left us shaken and humiliated.
What made the situation even more painful was the reaction from the bartenders—people who have always treated us kindly. Several of them expressed that they disagreed with how we were treated, but because the person responsible was the general manager, they felt powerless to intervene. Their support meant a lot, but it also underscored how wrong the situation was.
From our perspective, the way we were singled out felt discriminatory. We were treated differently for showing the same harmless affection any other couple would show without issue. The experience left us feeling unsafe, unwelcome, and judged for who we are rather than anything we did.
No customer should ever be physically handled by management, and no couple should be targeted for expressing normal affection. For LGBTQ+ patrons seeking a safe environment, this is not a place I can recommend. What happened to us was unacceptable, and people deserve to know how the general manager chose to treat long‑time loyal customers.
Place but it didn’t disappoint from start to finish. Sydney was our server and she was wonderful. I’m a sucker for frozen margaritas and this place had a great frozen and also made on the rocks with great consistency. We ordered the spinach queso followed by the fajita street tacos and the chicken Flautas, both dishes were prepared excellent. I have eaten at a lot of Tex-Mex and often disappointed but this place definitely won my vote. I would recommend to all friends to give this place a try.
