Social Profile:

Prohibition ended in Nebraska on August 9th, 1933, and Ole’s opened at 12:01 the next day. Since then, we’ve been known as the bar in Paxton with great food and unusual decor. Over the years, our founder, the great outdoorsman Ole Herstedt, embarked on adventures in big game hunting that took him to every continent. For 35 years, he brought his trophy mounts home and hung them above the bar tables and booths: a moose from Canada, a python from Honduras, and even an iconic polar bear! Along with our hearty steaks and burgers made with local Nebraska beef, these trophies are why we’re known as Nebraska’s most famous roadside pit stop. Hop in the car, hit the road, and experience true Americana with us.

Dating to 1933, this casual steakhouse serves a meat-centric American menu amid big-game trophies.

This was exactly what we were looking for! I started eating the steak immediately and forgot to take a picture when it came out but it was amazing! My first thought as I bit in was, “Oh WOW! This steak is FRESH!!!” Dallas was very nice and kept checking on us to see if we needed anything. Great service and food!!! We will definitely be back in our travels!! Also, check out the massive polar bear. It has to be every bit of 600 – 800 lbs!!! I noticed there’s a pool table there as well to kill some time. Thanks again Ole’s for a wonderful lunch experience!

Chicken fried steak was incredible. Pan fried. House salad included. Just missing green beans or corn. Ate in the sports bar, watched football. Kids went into main steakhouse to see all the animal mounts. Very reasonable prices.

What a great place I found just off the I 80 on my way through Nebraska. Nestled in the small town of Paxton was a great restaurant. Now this was not fine dining but good old country cooking. I had chicken rice soup as a starter followed by a salad. Then my main was a big ole hefty chicken fried steak and I was full. The staff were excellent constantly making sure that I was OK and then my food was meant to expectations. They were so friendly and so courteous. It was wonderful place to have a meal after a long day on the road. I was able to park my truck and U-Haul trailer out behind the restaurant so there was ample parking for those with a trailer. If you’re looking for some good food and a full belly, this is a place for you.

After reading reviews on Reddit/google we didn’t have high hopes for a great meal. But were stuck going here as my father-in-law wanted to eat here. And unfortunately, the Reddit reviews were accurate. I wouldn’t recommend eating here. We were a group of 10 and arrived at 4 (this is relevant for later) on 7/26/25. It was cool seeing all of the animals. However, they have been there a LONG time and looked like they could use a good dusting/cleaning. Our expectations for the food were low already. But I didn’t think it was going to be this bad. We are not ones to send our food back, but we did here. We ordered the chicken fried steak, Reuben, Rocky Mountain oysters, sirloin, steak sandwich, bison burger, kids chicken fingers, kids chicken legs, kids’ cheeseburger, and the fried pickle spears. We tried to order baked potatoes and prime rib – to our surprise you can only get these after 5. We waited a long time to receive our food for not being busy. My Reuben got set down and tried a sweet potato fry which was cold and the Reuben was not hot a cheese not melted and soggy. But still edible. But our food had to have been sitting there for a while before being brought to our table. The chicken fried steak had no flavor and tasted horrible. Husband told server, and server offered to bring something else. To which my husband declined because he didn’t want another bad thing. They did end up comping the chicken fried steak. My daughter complained that her chicken legs were “chewy”, so my husband tried them and he says, “I can see why she doesn’t like them”. So, another thing that didn’t get ate. The kids chicken strips have a ton of breading but were decent. I hate doing this to a small-town restaurant, but I would not recommend stopping here and eating.

This restaurant is a do not miss!! The food is delicious! The Rocky Mountain Oysters were tender and flavorful! The Ruben sandwich was one of the best that I’ve ever had! The cowboy baked beans were tasty as well!! The atmosphere is very cozy and hunter oriented!! The service that we received was very welcoming and friendly!! The waitress was very attentive to our table throughout the meal! Overall, we had an excellent experience!! We will definitely be back!!

Although we took our dinner for take – out it was an excellent meal!! We ordered the top sirloin steak dinner and the three piece fried chicken dinner. The steak was cooked to a delicious med rare, the mashed potatoes were perfectly chunky and the white gravy was thick and tasty. My husband said the fried chicken was delicious, loved the mashed potatoes as well and enjoyed the cowboy beans.
Inside is a treasure trove of animal heads on the wall, overhead and a huge grizzly incased.
Customer service is outstanding!!

What a great old steakhouse! The thick NY was perfectly cooked medium rare which isn’t that easy but they are great. Surrounded by trophies of the original owners big game hunts on all continents. Nice bar selection, nice wine choices. Opened in 1933, it’s like a museum of cool stuff. Colt, the bartender was delightful. Kid friendly and some nifty merch.

First time here, during a cross country road trip and I got the steak and shrimp and it was divine. The char on the steak was amazing and whoever cooked it knows their craft. Hands down some of the best mac and cheese ive ever had. The wait staff was great and the wait time was so short we were surprised our food got to us so quickly. Thanks for the great experience. 100% recommend
