I saw Fat Boyz as I was driving and doubled back an hour later. They did not disappoint. The Brisket was so good, exactly how I wanted it, tender and juicy. The rib tips were succulent just like I was back home in the Lou. I gotta hand it to Fat Boyz, felt like I was in the deep South for a minute, well at least my taste buds were. I will definitely be back and will be sure to tell my friends and fam to check them out! 10/10 BBQ Also, the friendliest folks I met all day, real southern hospitality!

Let me tell you. This restaurant blew our minds at how amazing it was. This is homemade southern cooking that would make your grandma proud. The atmosphere and employees were incredible. They really made my family feel like their family. I tried the 3 meat combo. Whoa! Couldn’t finish it. But definitely saved the rest for later.

I was visiting from out of state and was SUPER excited to try the burnt ends I saw on social media from this location. The first plate I got, the meat was the texture of wet firewood. I kindly asked them to remake it, and between those two sets, the guy cooking brought me a small piece and it was fairly moist so I said that it was fine, but the next plate they brought me was dry again. I took it back a second time and at this point asked for a refund, but they said they couldn’t refund me because I said the small piece that I tried was ok… The macaroni and cheese was okay, nothing special. They were very nice about everything, but the experience was overall disappointing.

Usually, I am the one taking care of people, but for the first time in a long time, I felt taken care of. My kids and I came here for dinner, and the food exceeded our expectations. The ribs were tender, and my son is strict about his yams; he gave excellent feedback on the taste and texture of the yams. The Mac and cheese was one of the best I’ve ever had.

What really stood out to me was Ms. Christy telling me to sit and eat while I served my children their food. She and the other gentleman came over and helped me while I sat and ate peacefully. She even came over and kept them company while I took my time to enjoy my meal. Whether they knew it or not, they helped me catch my breath from such a busy week. They helped me pack everyone’s food as I told them I was going to give my kids the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. We had a wholesome experience❤️

I really struggled with how to rate this one.

I was in the area for the night staying at a nearby hotel. There isn’t a lot in the area and I didn’t want to uber so decided to walk over and give Fat Boyz a try.

The interior is that of a good bbq place. Pretty basic, with some country chic decor, not pretentious or pretending to be a bbq place.

When you walk in, you ring yourself up on the tablet, there’s no cashier. I placed my order and there was only 1 other person waiting. There were 2 people working. I was a little surprised that it took 20 minutes from the time I ordered until I received my food. The dining area was hot, couldn’t feel any air so was an uncomfortable wait. Right before my food was ready I was asked if I got my drink, which I had not so she gave me a cup. The drink machine was not working. I brought it to her attention and was told they must have tripped a breaker. I’m thinking this location wasn’t built to house an operation like this as there were extension cords everywhere so no wonder a breaker was tripped. I was halfway through my meal before they got it working again and I was able to get a drink. The breaker must also operate the AC as I finally felt air circulating once that was fixed.

Now the food was very good. The pulled pork portion was huge. Didn’t come close to finishing it and since I was in a hotel I didn’t take the leftover. The Mac & cheese was cheesey and had a great flavor. The collard greens were cooked just right and had a great seasoning to them. They had a variety of sauces on the table and the ones I tried were very good and I kept alternating which ones I had because I couldn’t decided which I liked best. The Texas toast is an extra charge unless you pick it as one of your sides. At $3.50 for toast when most places include it, I was surprised. The meal plus toast and a drink was $30.

So the food taste and portion size were the positives here. The price, wait time, temperature in the dining area and drink machine issues are what knocked it down a bit.

As I started my review, the ambiance is perfectly fitting for a good, bbq restaurant but the price and wait was more equivalent to the more modern (and not as good) locations.

Do I recommend? Maybe if you order ahead and take it to go because I won’t take away that the food was actually very good.

I’ve been to the other locations and always been good. This location seems to have issues. On multiple occasions the drink machine just has carbonated water for certain soda, I’ve had brisket finely chopped and super dry, and today I had rubber brisket. The fact that they are willing to do this to customers is why they only get one star for this location. I also tried calling but no answer. Go to their Deerfield location, much better service and qaulity of food.

Good food, friendly staff. The tri-tip sandwich was good, not amazing. I’ll try something else next time but I will be back.

food was very good. my husband and I went for lunch. we had the st louis ribs 9/10, brisket 9/10, jerk chicken 6/10 ( jerk chicken skin was good but the actual chicken needed a little more seasoning ). sides: mac and cheese 8/10 and baked beans 9/10. bbq sauce all good but our favorite was the Memphis bbq sauce. the restaurant is small but very clean.
