Food and service was fantastic! We ordered the chicken fried chicken and the cheeseburger, both were delicious! The service was prompt and they have a great selection of cobbler and pies. We got the coconut cream pie to go. I will definitely be returning the next time i’m in the area and will be recommending to any who are nearby!

A lovely and quaint diner, a must-see if you’re traveling the Mother Road. Our burgers were delicious, we had a lovely time overall. We would definitely go back.

We were passing by and decided to give this place a try for lunch. The server was friendly and attentive, the food came out quick, and overall the meals were decent. The gravy for the chicken & dressing was really good tho!

I was looking for a place with good chicken fried steak and this place did not disappoint. Tender meat and yummy cream gravy. My husband had the grilled pork chop and he said that was excellent too. The only complaint I have is that we asked for pie to take with us. I ordered lemon meringue pie and my husband ordered chocolate pie. However, when we got to our hotel and wanted to eat it, I had received coconut cream instead of lemon meringue! . I cannot eat coconut…
But we would come back again, but I would check my pie order before I left the cafe.

Passing through on business and read reviews and decided to stop in for lunch. It was a worthy lunch! It was nice to visit a location that has the old fashion feel to it.

For starters we chose the Onion Rings – a definite must try if you like them!

I had to try the Chicken Fried Steak and it was worthy! My business partner tried the Bacon Cheeseburger – I almost wish I had his!

Wait staff was friendly and we never had to wait on them!

My visit to Clanton’s Cafe was easily one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve had, and that’s unfortunately due to multiple serious issues.

Severe hygiene problems
Before even entering the restaurant, we noticed rats right at the entrance, along with dog feces on the ground in the same area. This is beyond unpleasant and raises serious concerns about the overall hygiene standards of the establishment. If the entrance is in this condition, it’s hard to trust what’s happening inside the kitchen.

Inappropriate and aggressive staff behavior
A waiter behaved inappropriately toward my girlfriend. When I calmly asked him to stop, he responded by threatening me with physical violence. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable and has no place in any professional hospitality setting.

Poor food quality
The food itself was extremely disappointing. Everything tasted bland, poorly prepared, and gave the strong impression of being microwaved rather than freshly cooked. This is not what one would expect from a restaurant that claims to serve classic, homemade diner food.

Terrible value for money
Considering the hygiene issues, the aggressive service, and the low quality of the food, the prices are absolutely not justified.

Final verdict:
Rats and dog feces at the entrance, threats from staff, and food that feels straight out of a microwave — this has nothing to do with hospitality or a pleasant dining experience. I strongly recommend avoiding this place.

I spend a lot of time thinking about what makes a restaurant great. I read about it, write about it, even try to define it. But then I walk into a place like Clayton’s Café, and suddenly, my carefully crafted theories crumble like a stale biscuit.

For nearly a century—yes, almost 100 years—Clayton’s has quietly defied the usual rules of restaurant success. It’s not about the food (though it’s good), not about the location (though it’s familiar), not about the decor (though it has character). No, what makes this place great can’t be marketed, mass-produced, or manufactured. It’s something deeper.

It’s trust.

There’s a kind of integrity here, the kind that only comes with time. Not just years, but decades of proving to customers—generation after generation—that when they walk through those doors, they’re home. That’s not something you can buy. It’s not something you can fake. It’s built, one plate, one conversation, one handshake at a time.

As I sit here, enjoying my jumbo shrimp, I watch the people around me. The waitstaff. The regulars. The quiet nods of recognition, the comfortable laughter, the easy familiarity. These aren’t just customers. They’re belongers—people who have found a place that doesn’t need flashing lights, gimmicks, or trendy menu items to keep them coming back.

And that’s the thing. Most places that create this kind of atmosphere aren’t restaurants at all. They’re bars, pubs—places where people drink to forget. But Clayton’s doesn’t offer an escape. It offers a foundation. A place to settle in, have a meal, and feel safe.

So yes, I could talk about the food. I could talk about the cleanliness of the bathrooms, the friendliness of the staff. But none of that really matters here—because Clayton’s plays by a different set of rules. And it’s winning. It has been for a century.

If I’m lucky, I’ll live long enough to keep coming back. And if we’re all lucky, Clayton’s will be here another 100 years, still proving that some things—the best things—can’t be measured, only felt.

Great hometown cafe. Service was exceptional, waitresses friendly and attentive. Lots of booths but tends to fill up during busy hours. We ordered the hamburger and onion rings. Everything was good and tasty. Lots of things to choose from on the menu. We will definitely be back for more.
