Wright’s Dairy Rite was founded in March of 1952 by Forester and Alka Wright. The business was then only a small frozen custard store, similar to the popular Dairy Queen stores of the time. By the end of the 50’s, Dairy Rite had been transformed into a full menu Drive-In restaurant. Dairy Rite was a popular hang out for children of the 1950’s and 1960’s and continued to grow and expand. Visitors to Wright’s get to experience the food and atmosphere of a by gone era with speaker or telephone ordering from your car or table. Wright’s continues to offer delicious homemade specialties, including homemade onion rings, hand pattied burgers, footlong hot dogs, Malts and Sundaes.
Old-school drive-in turning out sandwiches & shakes in retro booth seating or delivered to the car.

Love the old time vintage feel, its like going back in time. The burgers were so good and the milkshakes were on point, loved it all. When we come back, we will definitely go back.

The place is appealing with its appearance and the traditional phone ordering method. The service is friendly, but the food is quite average, too greasy. I would definitely recommend improving the coffee. Regular coffee is more like hot water than coffee. Nevertheless, good luck with the family tradition.

This was an impromptu visit. Our first time. After buying a car at the dealership down the road, comfort food was on the menu. I loved the old diner style setup. Using the telephone at the table was a fun nostalgic spin to order your food. The food took awhile to come to the table but probably because it was cooked to order. The food was hot and tasty. The milkshake was amazing. I ordered the butterscotch milkshake, my favorite and it’s so hard to find anymore. Overall a good experience.

Wright’s Dairy-Rite is such a fun and nostalgic place it truly feels like stepping back into the 1950s! The retro decor, classic diner seats, and even the jukebox playing old, almost forgotten songs really add to the experience.
One of the cutest details was how the kids’ meals were served in a 1950s-style cruiser box it was such a fun touch! My son got the grilled cheese and liked it, while my daughters had hot dogs and really enjoyed them.
My husband ordered the Super Burger and said it was like a Big Mac, but made with fresh meat, which he really liked. I got the third-pound burger, and it was delicious and made with real beef definitely a solid choice. We ordered fries to go with everything, and while they were okay, they weren’t the highlight of the meal.
Overall, it was a great experience, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. If you love classic diners and a retro atmosphere, this is definitely a place to check out!

Very cool place! I’ve never seen a restaurant with phones at the table. Instructions on tables for how to order depending on where you’re sitting. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. I recommend the club sandwich.

We came for the soft serve ice cream and weren’t disappointed. The atmosphere is very nostalgic, and the service was friendly. Both the hot fudge sundae and the wrights wheelie hit the spot.

Overall, a fun, retro diner.
Service was pleasant, and the atmosphere was fun.
I had 2 dogs and fries.
The buns were sub-par and seemed a bit stale. The rest of the dog/onions/mustard/chili was enjoyable, as were the fries. But bad bread will ruin any dog or sandwich.

Went here for a quick lunch when we visited Staunton. It’s a retro fast food place and you can still order via the old phone booth method. We went inside and got seated in a table though. They have affordable burgers and some chili with beans and giant portions of dessert cakes too

Wrights Dairy Rite is like a charming glimpse into the past. It’s arguably the most kid-friendly and family-oriented restaurant I’ve ever visited. Everything about it is simply delightful. If you decide to eat in—which I highly suggest—make sure to sit on the left side upon entering. You can place your order directly from a telephone at your table, and it’s just the cutest experience! The tastiest dish was the onion rings! Yummy! We will be back.
