Longer version: I’ve been coming to Steak Loft for so many years, I don’t even remember how I first learned of it. We recently planned on over-nighting in Mystic for my birthday (in the sub-freezing January 2026 temps), so just for giggles I checked the recent Google Reviews and was surprised to see only a 3.9 out of 5. Regardless, we decided to go there anyway for nostalgic reasons and were delighted with how great everything was; the ambiance, the drinks and the steaks were all fantastic. Our wait person, Lindsey was also super-nice and great to speak with. As for the mediocre reviews? After reading through them again, the “themes” I’m noting seem to focus on the dimly-lit atmosphere (we call it “warm and cozy”…love it!), the absence of the old salad bar (which…let’s face it…needed to retire when COVID came to town) or the price…which is likely because of tourists blowing through town who are expecting the equivalent of a Ground Round or “99” restaurant. It’s not; it’s a legit steak place and the quality and portions well justify the prices which I feel are pretty reasonable. You won’t regret it!
We ordered fish and chips (amazing) and sirloin, salad, French onion soup, and mashed potatoes. My steak wasnt cooked too correct temp, and was a little bland, but was still decent. Possibly you should order it medium rare if you want it medium cuz it was overcooked.
Everything else was good minus the fact that the server forgot my soup, i received it after my meal and the soup was comped.
I will return to try the happy hour items.
The meal was delicious and the waitress was excellent. I would definitely recommend it if you are visiting Groton
However, the bill was a bit of a surprise (well, more than a bit). They chrarged for a seltzer water! Who does that?
*Updated* Well, now I see some other restaurants charge as well. There must be tariffs on seltzer.
