I had the sour cream enchiladas with chicken, chicken tortillas soup, and chips and salsa.
Chips were crispy and the salsa was fresh with just enough spice.
Chicken tortilla soup was hot, hot, hot … steaming! Plenty of chicken. Rich broth and great flavor.
Sour cream enchiladas are as good as I remember. Creamy, savory, and a little spice. Rice was cooked well and flavorful. The BEANS … they need to be talked about more. They are delicious.
Overall I was completely happy I decided to take a trip back in time and would recommend Poco and Mom’s to anyone looking for great New Mexican style food at a great price.
On top the hash browns is green chile sauce. Yesterday I could barely taste it but one of the few pieces of green chile tasted like roasted green chile, another piece tasted exactly like canned green chile. Are we stretching our green chile with subpar canned green chile, that telltale sour taste from the citric acid they use to preserve it. There was literally like a tablespoon of green chili sauce on there. it didn’t spill onto the plate like it used to. Some sort of strange shrinkflation You think green chile aficionados aren’t going to pick up on?
Next, get a cook that can make an over medium egg – dippy not snotty, test the cook’s egg foo before they jump on the line. This BTW has happened the last three times I’ve been there. I usually send them back, but I think I’m about to give up. I came home and made my own eggs so I could actually eat the meal without gagging and I put my own, much better, green chile on it.
What the hell happened to the beans? They are usually on the thicker side. Yesterday the batch was so watered down I had to eat them with a spoon. I mean New Mexico isn’t known for their frijoles. But dang, maybe some more that shrinkflation, double the batch with water? They had absolutely no flavor but that can always be rectified with the green chile sauce if there had been any on the plate that I could spare. As you can see, I put some cheese in the middle to melt and get some flavor.
The flatbread aka New Mexico style tortilla was over microwaved, hard as a rock. Or it had been sitting out for a considerable amount of time.
I don’t want to see this restaurant close, but keep it up and your regulars won’t be coming back. Money is too tight to spend $35 with tip on a nearly inedible breakfast. Do better or we go away. I’ve brought dozens up on dozens of people to your restaurant over the years and they became regulars.
The service is still wonderful as usual, the wait staff absolutely earns their tips.
I know that you guys don’t care about your reviews and I know that you are like “don’t like it, leave” but that really will make me sad.
Drink orders were taken promptly, and complimentary chips and salsa were brought out also. We also ordered the Mexican pizza as a starter, which was outstanding.
Very light and crispy with great flavor.
Onto the entrees, all were outstanding. The pictures of all the food was an afterthought, so I apologize for the pics being taken post meal lol. Taco salad, nachos, Carne Asada chimichanga,
Portions were great, and the nachos were huge. Fried ice cream was ordered for the dessert. Huge portion! Taste?
Excellent! It was shared between 3 people, but was enough for 5-6.
All in all, I definitely recommend this place.
Service:
We were there about an hour and a half. We saw our waitress 4-6 times. Most of it was after we complained about not getting our food. We ordered an appetizer and two meals. Appetizer came quickly but our two meals did not. We were the second set of people in the dining area when we arrived and ordered. We noticed that 5 other sets of people have came in and received their food. One set of people had a person with the same order as us.
We asked a wondering bus boy about it because our waitress hadn’t returned in awhile. About 5-10 min later our food arrived. You can tell it was rushed because the food seemed to be thrown together.
Taco salad:
The shell was over cooked almost burnt(a really dark brown and crumbled when attempting to take pieces off). The inside was good and had a food flavor. The meat(chicken)was dry. I mean really dry.
Nachos:
Some of the chips were undercooked and were soft. The meat(carne asada) was dry but not as dry as the chicken in the taco salad. It did have a good flavor and the flavor profile was balanced.
Messy Fries:
These were delicious! I don’t know what that white sauce is but it is good. Fries were not crispy. Meat had a good flavor and was not dry.
Fried ice cream:
I have never been a fan of the cinnamon toast crunch(sorry I don’t know the proper name) that is used as a coating. My wife loves it. The place it into a sweet shell. I removed the coat and ate it with just the shell and…wow. If we go back to try again, I will order one with the ice cream and just the sweet shell.
We were nearly full when it arrive but we devoured it. It is delicious.
