Great Mexican restaurant. It is very large inside with plenty of seating.the service was good and the food came out promptly after our order. The food was plentiful, a little more than I could finish. I had the Flameado with chicken and beef. It was very good, but the beef took a lot of chewing.

This restaurant felt very familiar, like our local restaurant Spicy Mexico in Bowie. The menu was very similar. The salsa was different, spicy but delicious! The food was delicious, the service was great!! Fast service, and the fajitas were full of flavor!! So much food we had to go plates! Definitely a must go for great food! The tea is refreshing!

I’ve been coming to El Matador for thirty years—yes, three decades of chips, salsa, and memories—and it’s still one of my all-time Denton staples. We pulled out all the stops for this visit (10 adults and 4 kids), and once again, they did not miss.
Our waiter (the same one I’ve had since forever) is absolutely awesome. Friendly, fast, and always on top of things — service here is consistently excellent every single time.
The food? Always hot, fast, and delicious. From sizzling fajitas to crispy tacos, every bite tastes like it came out of the kitchen five seconds ago. The kids cleaned their plates, the adults were happy, and not a single dish hit the table lukewarm — that’s rare these days.
And the margaritas… chef’s kiss. Strong, smooth, and perfectly balanced — none of that syrupy stuff you find at other places. These are real-deal margs made by people who know their craft.
Even though I didn’t snag many pictures (it was a surprise dinner), it’s one of those spots where the food speaks for itself — and it’s been doing so for decades.
If you’re after authentic, dependable, and family-friendly Mexican food with small-town heart and big flavor, El Matador is it. A true Denton classic.
Pros:
• Awesome, attentive service
• Hot, fast, consistently delicious food
• Strong, balanced margaritas
• Family-friendly atmosphere
• Thirty years of pure consistency
Cons:
• You’ll crave it again the next day
• Their margaritas may ruin all others for you

Had a nice time with family and friends at El Matador this evening. Our server, Memo was a lovely gentleman with a great attitude. The staff was friendly and the food was yummy. We had a large crowd but the staff quickly pulled together several tables to accommodate.

It looked yummy on pictures but Nay! for taste or flavor. Its more like a texmex style kitchen NOT a real Mexican restaurant. Who sprinkles paprika on chips? Breakfast isn’t available here!

Great customer service but the food lacked flavor. Beautiful presentation but the seasonings were not to my liking. Rice had too much of some seasoning like cumin or oregano, the ground beef in the taco and tostada was so flavorless and the tostada shell was so stale, I couldn’t bite through it so I took off the meat and toppings and ate it with the paprika seasoned chips. After a 5 hour drive, yes I was hungry and ate everything but I would not eat there again.

The food and atmosphere are perfect, feels like such a hidden gem once you get inside. The cheese enchiladas are incredible and the chips and salsa are amazing too. Would love to try their other items, but I just can’t pass up on their enchiladas everytime I am in there.

This was a little restaurant in a strip center. Very nice inside with plenty of seating. Our waiter was very good. Food came out only a few minutes after we ordered. There were 6 of us. The food was delicious. They have a good amount of items on the menu. Burritos were a good size. Quesadilla was amazing.

This is a great spot to stop by when you’re in Denton. The food was really good and it’s a great price. The chicken fajita has a really good flavor. The salsa was flavorful and not too spicy. The flan was delicious and the churros were the best I’ve ever had. I would highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.

Ordered 2 dozen cheese enchiladas for take out for Christmas dinner. The cost was well in excess of 55.00. First, they were packed in huge trays that were impossible to fit in a household oven or refrigerator so they had to be transferred into other containers. There was barely any sauce on them. Much of the sauce was was stuck in the pan and lost when transferred to smaller dishes. Secondly, they would not provide chips and salsa with the order. It would be extra. I feel like the chips and salsa should have been included, since had we gone there to eat and ordered this food they would have been. I have been ordering this same thing every Christmas for about 5 years and the salsa and chips have always been complimentary. I didn’t immediately post this review because we have been long time customers and I tried to let it go, however the more I thought about it, the angrier I got. There are Mexican restaurants everywhere, many much closer than El Matador. Many Businesses are closing these days and they should show appreciation for their customers. I feel like this company does not appreciate the many years we have patronized their establishment and included family and friends . I will sadly not be returning.
