Mowgli is all about how Indians eat at home and on their streets. She was born to feed the raw need Indians have for tiffins full of fresh bright intense flavour. Mowgli is not about the intimate, hushed dining experience. It is about the smash and grab zing of healthy, light, virtuosic herbs and spices. The simple dishes of a Mowgli menu are a million miles away from the curry stereotype. These dishes convey the truth that real Indian food is extremely healthy, often vegan and always packed with fresh flavour.

Just one thing to note is that as you walk in you are asked “still or spring” and we said still. Water came over promptly which we were charged £4.60 for. I do feel annoyed at this as it felt a bit underhand. That said we were advised at the point of asking for the bill that there was an optional £1 charity donation and a 10% service charge which we were happy to pay . Would definitely recommend Mowgli
Firstly the food tasted delicious but the portion sizes are a bit of a let down. Would have preferred maybe a bit more for the price we were paying.
What really let it down was the service. The manager on duty on the 30/12 evening was clearly in a bad mood. We initially turned up at 1800 to be told there was absolutely no seating for tonight. I managed to book online for 1845 and subsequently turned up at 1830 and was sat immediately. There was a walk in of 4 behind us which immediately got sat as well, clearly there was plenty of availability. After that the service was pretty lack luster, I had to call someone over every time to get anything done.
All in all the food quality is great but let down but the staff mainly the manager and the small portions.
I probably wouldn’t come to the Oxford store again and stick to the London branches.
Lower the amount of cinnamon in the paneer dish, cook the garlic and coriander paratha till brown, and preheating the cup with hot water will keep the chai latte extra hot (we asked for extra hot but it was lukewarm). Additionally, the £1 donation to a charity on the bill and the 10% service charge could have been optional. Nevertheless, I shall definitely visit again. And yes, I love the passport.
Negatives…the food was extremly dissapointing. I love Indian food, travelled to India multiple times and what we were served was lacking seasoning and flavour. The potatoe curry tasted like boiled potatoes covered in canned tomatoes and re-heated. Dahl and butter chicken were average the best. The chat bombs and fenugreek fries were nice.
Very good for date nights / meals out
