When visiting Queenstown, Fergbaker felt like an obligatory stop, especially since we made it a goal to try meat pies everywhere during our time in New Zealand. With the constant line outside, expectations were definitely high. We ordered the steak and cheese pie. It was fresh, served hot, and the pastry was nicely flaky and buttery, which we really enjoyed.
Overall, it was good, but it felt like something was missing. Compared to other pies we had throughout the country, this one didn’t quite live up to the hype. We felt there wasn’t enough filling compared to the amount of pastry, and the meat was a bit tougher than expected. While the flavors were decent, they didn’t stand out as much as some of the incredible pies we tried elsewhere.
We’re glad we stopped by and tried it, and it’s certainly a solid option if you’re in the area. However, it wasn’t our favorite pie experience in New Zealand, and there were definitely better meat pies to be found during our travels. Worth trying once, but perhaps not the must-try spot it’s often made out to be.

Worthwhile to get your breakfast here. Please type of options and the coffee is great. They are open til late ans I never saw them run out of anything. The croissant was great, the rolls too…loved the rosemary-potato roll. The Boston doughnut was a little treat and well worth it. And pro tip: the line is never as long as for the burgers next door

Ferg Baker pies are pure comfort food done right. Each pie is golden, flaky, and packed to the brim with rich, hearty filling that actually tastes homemade. The pastry is buttery and crisp without being greasy, and the fillings are generous—no sad empty corners here.

Every bite is warming and satisfying, whether you’re grabbing one on the go or sitting down to fully appreciate it. The flavors are bold, well-seasoned, and perfectly balanced, making it easy to see why people keep coming back. It’s the kind of pie that feels like a reward after a long day.

I highly recommend their Lamb kumara pie (lamb & sweet potato) and Chicken Jalfrezi pie. Lip smacking we kept coming back for more every morning. Perfect for breakfast. Their pies are huge too. Finish off with an amazing hazelnut cuppachino and almond croissant. Shorter lines than the ferg burger next door. Around 5 mins in queue.

Incredible bakery with lots of options and wonderful workers. I had the breakfast wrap (toasted) and the almond pain au chocolat. Both were so delicious that I had to come back the very next day to get the same thing. Love this place and highly recommend to anyone who loves good food and great service.

Food: 4.5/5
Service: 4.3/5
Value: 4.5/5

A fantastic spot for any of your bakery needs. I personally had the Ferg pie, sausage roll, raspberry cheesecake, and their famous Boston cream donut. Honestly the Boston cream donut, but it was my least preferred out of everything I ordered. Part of the reason is that everything else was just incredibly delicious. Pick something you think looks/sounds good, and you won’t be disappointed! There’s no place to sit down in the bakery, so would recommend getting the food and popping by lakeside to enjoy the views if weather permits.

I stopped by because I was browsing and saw vegetarian and vegan options… I can say for sure that the vegan sandwich was exceptional… the lentil and mushroom pie was the best I’ve ever eaten! Thank you for including every type of diet and doing it so well with original and tasty options! Highly recommended.

Been here twice. The first time, I got the popular Boston cream donut and i’m happy I did. It was 6/5! The filling tasted like light ice cream. It was sooooo yummy!!

Second time, I got the lamb pie and white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. The cheesecake was good. Not as great as the cream donut though. I’ll give it a 4.5/5.

The lamb pie was tasty. 4/5

First time trying Fergbaker while traveling in NZ. Dad and I both ordered the Ferg and cheese pie.

The flavor was to die for! Pastry so fresh, the meat was tender and combo with cheese next level. Also had the choc chip cookie and French cream donut.

We went back the second time, Dad had another pie. I had the chicken sandwich and choc and white choc chip cookie was delicious.

Will love to go back to have another pie! Next time wanna try the fluffy cream and custard donut

Who puts blue cheese in the pie? Ferguson does! Still tastes devine after reheated in the morning. I think the bakery is underrated compared to their wildly popular burgers. It deserves a long line of it’s own.
