I’m so glad we took a detour downtown for this lil historic gem!

I had never had a Maid-Rite sandwich before (meat simmered with ingredients like beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and onions, giving it a juicy, savory flavor without being saucy) and I know this won’t be the last time.

The root beer and onion rings are so good, we ordered more. We especially love the unique sauces served with the onion rings.

The restaurant has lots of seating, a cute gift shop, including a cooler full of root beer you can buy for the road. The restaurant is easy walking distance from other historic Mark Twain locations in Hannibal.

Pretty good experience here. The best thing is the root beer, I’m a bit of a craft root beer snob. This is probably in the top 10 best I’ve had. The burger I had was the MO burger (I think) with fries. Burger has BBQ on it. It was good, not fantastic. Staff was attentive.

Most definitely had to try the root beer here! Definitely a great experience as the root beer was flavorable as well as not over powering and also being served in a frosted mug was even better. The food here is very delicious as I was a repeat customer as well as buying a various amounts of Bottled drinks available. A case of the root beer was well worth it too. The onion rings were one of the best I have ever had a long with the dipping sauce.

We’ve missed this gem for decades! Our short detour revealed a warm, inviting place serving excellent, in-house prepared food and home-made, frosted mug root beer better than some restaurants serve water!! We ordered a smoked pork sandwich, regular garnish with loaded green beans, a MO Burger, regular garnish, and a piping-hot apple cobbler with ice cream for dessert. Our hostess routinely filled ALL guests beverages and worked as a team.
I ‘had’ to get the variety 6-pack root beer to enjoy & savory the wonderful new driving rest stop.

Traveling from Colorado to Ohio, I spent the night in Hannibal at the hotel across the street.

Root beer is very good, poutine was delicious, and the chicken was great, juicy and lots of flavor in their breading. That biscuit was pretty darn good too.

I will make it a point to include a stop here in future travels along this route.

It’s a bit out of the ordinary, but in a good way. Seated immediately, waitress quick, friendly and quick. Food extra good. Lots of variety, something for everyone. Only sad part was food was so good and plentiful that we were too full for dessert. 8 slices of bacon on my BLT!!
Hubby had one of the horseshoe dishes and loved it.

This was a little different than I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised. My initial reaction was that the burgers were very high priced for a small town diner in the off-season. However, after the food arrived I couldn’t believe how good it was.

Quite possibly the best burger I’ve ever had.

Everything was prepared to perfection, and the burger even looked like a food photo, which is very rare, as actual food often looks very different from photos. I wish I recall what I ordered exactly, but I believe it was a Cajun burger. I ordered mine with Beyond Beef patties, which adds to my amazement at how good this burger was.

The service was prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere has a modern, yet small town feel.

Highly recommended.

This is a mandatory stop in Hannibal. Right next to Mark Twain house and other sites. Maidrite, root beer float, and onion rings are great. The staff are very nice.

We were recently able to eat here during a quick trip to visit the sights of Mark Twain. What a fantastic little dinner. We got here soon after they opened, because by 12, there was a wait. I tried the half-sized Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. It was cooked well, and the half size was right for me. The rest of the family had chicken and waffles, the “Mississippi BBQ Burger”, and kids ‘Grilled Cheese.” The onion rings were so good! The service was quick and courteous. Great little place to stop, just a block up from the shops on Main Street.

They serve the best fried chicken. They have fantastic onion rings. The open-face roast beef is delicious. Burgers are good. We have not had any bad food.
