I had never had a Maid-Rite sandwich before (meat simmered with ingredients like beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and onions, giving it a juicy, savory flavor without being saucy) and I know this won’t be the last time.
The root beer and onion rings are so good, we ordered more. We especially love the unique sauces served with the onion rings.
The restaurant has lots of seating, a cute gift shop, including a cooler full of root beer you can buy for the road. The restaurant is easy walking distance from other historic Mark Twain locations in Hannibal.
I ‘had’ to get the variety 6-pack root beer to enjoy & savory the wonderful new driving rest stop.
Root beer is very good, poutine was delicious, and the chicken was great, juicy and lots of flavor in their breading. That biscuit was pretty darn good too.
I will make it a point to include a stop here in future travels along this route.
Hubby had one of the horseshoe dishes and loved it.
Quite possibly the best burger I’ve ever had.
Everything was prepared to perfection, and the burger even looked like a food photo, which is very rare, as actual food often looks very different from photos. I wish I recall what I ordered exactly, but I believe it was a Cajun burger. I ordered mine with Beyond Beef patties, which adds to my amazement at how good this burger was.
The service was prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere has a modern, yet small town feel.
Highly recommended.
