Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes.
For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business.
Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.
Chain known for steakburgers & milkshakes offering a dinerlike space with retro flair.

It was great…Ordered a bacon single fries and a strawberry shake. My food was nice and fresh just as I ordered and the taste was on point! Atmosphere was good and the dinning area was kept clean. Only thing I didn’t like about my visit was the fact that they replaced the cashier job with a self order machine. They are there to help you but it’s sad to see technology take over human jobs! I recommend you use the season packed for your fries!!

Everything was extremely clean from the main dining room to the restrooms. The food hot, fresh and quick! All 3 meals we ordered were as close to perfect as anyone could ask. Oh and all the staff were very friendly.

I used to go to Steak ‘N Shake for many years, from childhood through fatherhood, introducing all my kids to “takehomeasak” and great seasoned fries. Fast-forward to more recent times when they stopped using waitresses, then, even worse, they got rid of chocolate (or any other flavor) Malts! How can you have a Steak ‘N shake without malts? Then the went to kiosks which didn’t save time in ordering, and I still had to ask the cook for a couple of things because the weren’t on the kiosk (like no A-1 Steak sauce!). The cook was nice and fixed me up OK, but the tables weren’t very clean and I had to wipe the table and bench seat. Background music was too loud and a lady was going around with a broom and dust pan, dragging it all across the tiles on the floor everywhere she went, making an unpleasant noise. The beef patties tasted good but were dry (drier than when we occasionally would order them dry as we were going to eat in the car so the good juice wouldn’t drip everywhere). But the price was decent and the seasoned fries tasted really good. A lady was there with several kids who seemed to enjoy their meals though. I might try it again sometime when I want a burger and fries at a decent price Five Guys makes great Burgers, but you’d have to pay over twice as much for it.. forgot to take pictures, I’ll try to remember to add them next time.

I hadn’t had Steak & Shake in a while. Truly, I was under the impression it may not be what it used to be. We stopped while traveling at this location and it certainly made me realize I was wrong. We had a fantastic experience: food was delicious, service was quick, the environment was pleasant, and the restaurant was very clean, including the bathrooms. Personally, I enjoyed the new setup of ordering up front and collecting your food once your number was called. I still felt like the staff and manager were very attentive to our needs while we dined. Great job, Steak & Shake in Lake City!

This location of steak ‘n Shake is always really good! The food is fresh, flavorful, and delicious! I’ve only gone through the drive-through, but they are always courteous and very efficient with the orders. I also really love the fact that they use tallow when making their onion rings and french fries!! Plus, they sell tallow for cooking at home. I have not purchased this yet, but I definitely want to try it when I get a chance. This is definitely one of the better burger places in Lake City. That’s kind of a hidden jem. Going to the Drive-through is generally a pretty pleasant and quick experience. I definitely like this place and I can be pretty critical of restaurants.

Shake machine is broken or something. Milkshakes were more like a cup of milk it was so loose. They said they can’t control how it comes out of the machine but I have never gotten such a soupy milkshake from here before. I absolutely love our steak and shake but this hurts my heart. 6 dollars for a watery shake.

I’ve eaten at this Steak ‘n’ Shake twice in the past month or so. I lived next door to one when I was young, 40 years ago. When they’re good, they’re REALLY good. My Steak ‘n’ Shake experiences over the past decade or so weren’t good. One in Florence KY was memorably bad.
But Lake City has it together. Table service with China and silverware is gone. You order at a kiosk. But the food is terrific and that’s why you go.
The people here are very friendly, too. I don’t eat much fast-food these days except when traveling. When I do, it’s usually chick’n filet. But when it comes to fast-food burgers and fries, Steak ‘n’ Shake wins the derby. And this location is excellent. Next visit, I will have to spring for a vanilla shake.
The only negative: The piped-in “music” is annoying. But you get that nearly everywhere.

The food was really good and the service wasn’t bad. However, from the parking lot to throughout the store, left alot to be desired!! The parking lot was full of trash and over half the tables inside the restaurant were covered with diner’s trash where they had eaten their meals and just gotten up and left and no one had cleared the tables. Just visited their whole passing thru the area so don’t know if that’s a normal thing for them. But the definitely corps use some work in the cleanliness department. But the food was some of the best Steak and Shake I’ve had!

Would I go back- Yea.
To me not having waitresses is a big deal. It goes hand in hand with atmosphere. I wasnt expecting a taco bell experience at steak and shake. Walked in, had to place the order on the machine and then the food was called out, we had to get up and go get it from the counter, serve ourselves and take care of our dishes. Food was as expected… they’ve definitely shrunk the menu…

Horrible !!! All kiosk ordering , you have to have a scan code to get a drink. Absolutely ridiculous, will never go back here. It was clean , and people were friendly but every customer was not happy about kiosk situation!!! Take it back to the ok steak and shake and I’ll come back. They even ask for a tip on the kiosk , what’s the tip for ? I did all the button pushing , got my drink , and condiments , then went to get my food when my name was called . Service is gone !!!!
