The food at amber was extremely mediocre. What you are paying for is mostly location. However, the interior which was once nice is showing signs of dilapidation.

My review is for the buffet, but I would think it translates to ala carte on the matter of food quality.

The naan and roti were both puffy and doughy. This is a problem in many of the North Indian restraunts the bay area. My go-to place for good naan is bundu khan! Go there!

The buffet offered 5-6 vegetarian dishes of which a couple were barely Indian like sauteed broccoli and corn.

There were 4 non vegetarian dishes- butter chicken, mutton and fish. There was also tandoori chicken. The tandoori chicken was again not juicy and did not have the smokiness or charring you’d expect from a tandoor. Go to bundu khan, waah ji waah or kuku da dhaba for your kebabs instead. You’ll thank me later!

The chicken in the butter chicken was overcooked and the gravy was excessive sweet. Similar issue with the mutton. The only meat that was not overcooked was fish but for a tawa fish it was lacking in flavor. You are better off going to zareens or pakwan for curries.

The desert was the only thing that was remotely tasty. The gualb jamun and barfi were ok but nothing to write home about.

The service was the only thing that was good. It was prompt and attentive.

Exceptional and authentic Indian food prepared with fresh ingredients and presented in a highly professional manner. The service was amazing. Large vegetarian options and the dishes were innovative with great flavor and taste.

Great ambience and location. It’s a nice place to take your work friends. The flavors were a bit too mild for my liking. Prices are pretty typical compared to other similar restaurants nearby.

The service here is the big selling point. Extremely prompt, attentive, and proactive. They deserve every penny you’re paying for the meal. The place is kept clean and spacious. The big misfortune of the locale is the that a lot of the food is just alright. We’ll start good to bad. The naan is great here. The only issue is that they bring it out to you so you’ll have to wait on them to get more naan. The butter chicken is excellent but I’ve had better butter chicken for a lower price at other places. The dosa station guy is chill if you like dosa. Drinks come with the buffet. The mimosa is a mango one but you could t really taste it. The sweet lassi is also pretty plain. The mango lassi is good though. Their dessert bar is bountieous and they have a great bit of vegetarian options. But there were only 5 non-veg options, one of which is fish, and only two were good. The fish is meh. The butter chick is great. The goat was meh. Then there were two chicken wings options?! For a meal that’s just about $50/person, that’s just not good enough. It’s a shame because this place is so great everywhere else but the food is a bit lacking for the price.

This place is truly exceptional, not only did they serve some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had, but the hospitality was just as memorable as the meal. Even though they were very busy, they graciously made me an off menu dish I was craving, mushroom matar, and it was absolutely delicious. They made my dining experience feel very personal and special. That level of kindness and care is rare. Everything was flavorful, beautifully prepared, and deeply satisfying. An unforgettable meal from start to finish, I will definitely be back!

Visited Amber in downtown SFO after checking their great Google reviews, and it truly lived up to the hype. The ambience is spacious, vibrant, and welcoming, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was top-notch—staff were warm and attentive.

Tried the malai chicken kebab which was freshly made, and when I asked for more spice, they promptly replaced it with a spicier version along with delicious chutneys. The chicken biryani was unique—different from Texas-style Hyderabad dum biryani but equally flavorful and made with fresh white meat.

Though a bit pricier compared to Texas, the overall experience—food, service, and vibe—makes it worth it. Highly recommend Amber for anyone looking for quality Indian food and a great place to hang out

Easily the best Indian food I’ve had in the United States! Amber offers an exceptional spread, outstanding quality, and excellent service. It doesn’t get more authentic than this. Every dish is thoughtfully crafted—more a work of art and skill than mere cooking. Compared to other restaurants, the prices are very reasonable. I thoroughly enjoyed their buffet, and the Indian sweets were truly out of this world. Amber is a true ambassador of India’s rich culinary heritage and incredible flavors. This is my first 5-star rating for an Indian restaurant.

Serves a modern take on Indian food (I am not sure why other reviews say it is traditional food, but maybe the lunch buffet is). The overall experience was great, with really flavorful food and attentive service. The ambience is nice and welcoming too. We had an eggplant dish with scamorza cheese filling, bhel, paneer, and a variety of their naans. Definitely worth a visit!

Favorite Indian restaurant in San Francisco. Quite expensive — over $60 per person — but it’s worthy.

I had a business dinner here so I couldn’t take photos but the food was very nicely delivered to our table’s spice (or lack there of) levels. It was really tasty, some of the better Indian food I have had. The staff was also super polite and made the guests feel very welcome, so I was happy with this spot for a business dinner. Lots of families around d us too, so it would have been great for an I formal dinner too. I would recommend to others, definitely.
